Cool Hunting
When Ana Strumpf moved her store Garimpo and Fuxique to Jardins, a cosmopolitan São Paulo shopping district just blocks away from the busier, pricier and more famous Rua Oscar Freire, she eyed the lot of empty stores around the corner from hers and had an idea. Bringing in designers to fill those spots had the potential to create a new commercial area. She got on the phone and spread the word to friends in fashion who eventually negotiated deals separately with the building's owner.
So goes the story behind Recanto do Alto Jardins, located at Alameda Franca and Rua Bela Cintra, a freshly reinvigorated area in which Brazil's most promising up-and-coming designers have been calling their new digs home since December. These include Marcelo Sommer's wonderful label Do Estilista, Fabia Bercsek's eponymous women's wear line, Le Sac's well-constructed bags and D'Arouche's and Ha Uma Santa's sophisticated collections. There's still one open spot still available and the new neighbors are hankering for something different, such as a cafe or floral shop, just to round things out.

Strumpf says there was no chance for deserving young designers to make their mark among shoppers on Rua Oscar Freire because of the high rents. But besides adding fresh blood into Jardins, the addition of these shops brings along something invaluable to the prestigious area: edge.

Only a little more than six months old, Brecho Luxo is causing somewhat of a sensation with the fashion cult here in São Paulo. The third boutique to their name (they also have spaces in Paris and New York), the all-white space houses the best of Brazilian clothing and accessories as well as S2A's own line. Standouts include Adriana Degreas, Alexandre Herchcovitch...

By Christina PanasJust five years after opening their flagship Williamsburg boutique, and on the heels of a Park Slope outpost, Oak co-owners Louis Terline and Jeff Madalena are making that first East River crossing with sleek new digs in NoLita, a shop that opens officially on Monday. "It happened quickly," says Terline, when asked how long the latest store had been in the works. "This...
We were among the excited first today to check out A.P.C.'s latest store (and the second of their outlets worldwide) today in Brooklyn. Called A.P.C. Surplus for its flat 60% discounted prices, the Williamsburg storefront is housed in a beautiful former bank with plenty of rustic charm (i.e. it looks as if it recently caught fire). At only 600 square feet, the space feels...
by Pamela Liou When homeward-bound couple and former record executives Jessica Jenkins and Andy West set up shop in their native Kennebunkport, Maine, they brought back NYC’s high-end design sensibility and blended it with their love of nature and travel. The open white interior of the shop is accented by warm wooden beams and the railings leading into the back of the store line...
