Lykke Li by Lost At E Minor

lykke.jpg

When CH predicted in 2006 that Swedish songstress Lykke Li was one to look out for in the coming year, it may have been a little premature. With her debut album, Youth Novels, slated for release at the end of this month, it looks as if the 21 years-old has 2008 written all over her. There's a huge bidding war underway for her now, not surprising given that her sound is a cross between Concretes, Robyn, Royksopp and a dash of M.I.A.—all done with a lo-fi girly pop electronic twist.

Harrisons
A crackling assault of guitars and drums, lyrics that bristle with indignation. Sheffield's Harrisons are for our era what The Clash were for theirs: a voice of rebellion, masked in four minute pop gems. We spoke recently to drummer Mark White. Aside from Harrisons and Joe Cocker, what else should we know about the creative scene in Sheffield? The best band from Sheffield by...
The E.L.F.
The E.L.F. is the new side project of Gerling frontman, Darren Cross. A genre agnostic, Cross throws a tantrum on "Stevie Nicks Hearts," the first EP created el solo in the dark underbelly of his Sydney home studio. The indie-infused aesthetic smashes itself against the wall, whilst '80s synth-beats get thrown across the room like a bad break up. It's like Beck made babies...
Heya Hifi Records: Music and Food
Have you ever wondered what Giles Peterson likes to cook for his wife after a long day traveling the globe, deejaying and being a musical tastemaker for all the world? Try Spaghetti and Sea Urchins?! Answering these questions, the dapper pair that is SUMO (aka Combo and Alf Tumble, pictured right) run the fabulous Heya Hifi Record label out of Sweden. Not only do...
TheSwimmingPools
If anybody needs proof of how useless the recording industry has become, look no further than TheSwimmingPools. In the past few years, the NYC-based duo has recorded three albums and produced a slew of videos using only a computer in their East Village apartment. Comprised of Christophe Doloire and Daniel Smith, the group plays a brooding electronica that feels as if it would've been...
