Daydream Music Festival by Leonora Oppenheim

Just when we thought they couldn't possibly fit any new music festivals into Barcelona's already beat-filled summers, we hear that the organizers of Summercase, Sinnamon Productions, will introduce Daydream, a new one-day festival. What's more, they secured Radiohead's only date in Spain this year. This is no mean feat since Radiohead's been getting serious about their envrionmental footprint and are loath to tour, restricting themselves to only a few shows in Europe this summer. How did Sinnamon get them on board?

Aileen Morrisey told Petz Scholtus of TreeHugger. "Radiohead were very concerned about touring this year, and have been working for a long time on how to reduce their carbon footprint. For our Barcelona festival, they asked us to supply them with information such as the details of public transport to and from the venue and also the city of residence of each ticket holder, in order to calculate the potential distances traveled. The Fórum site in Barcelona is very well connected, with metro, bus and tram lines stopping directly outside. There is also a huge south-facing solar panel at the site which generates electricity and reduces emissions."

It's good to see that it now pays to be green in the music industry with festival organizers taking action in order to attract the big names. We hope others will follow in Sinnamon's reduced footsteps. Look out for the developing Daydream lineup on MySpace—now that Radiohead's confirmed it's sure to be a stellar show!

Summercase 2007
Sunshine, blue skies, sand, sea and waves—sound waves that is— are all elements of summers in Barcelona, the epicenter of summer music festivals. This past weekend the city danced to the happy sounds of Summercase. Now in its second year, the newer, lighter and fluffier festival on the block displayed its youthfulness with a decidedly upbeat line-up, in contrast with the darker edgier sounds...
The Dachshund Spring Fiesta 2007
In this video we visit the 19th annual Dachshund Spring Fiesta in NYC's Washington Square Park. Put on by the Dachshund Friendship Club, the event is one of two get-togethers they hold each year and draws hundreds of Dachsies and their owners. The only official activity is the singing of the Dachshund Song, composed by Murray Weinstock (who also made a CD of "dog...
Sónar 2006
After our strange multimedia experience at Sonarama, it was time to get our dancing shoes on for Sónar. I was so enthusiastic about getting there that I was the first person off the first bus Friday night. Why in such as hurry you ask? Just one name: Gilles Peterson, the main man for funky soulful electro beats in the UK, with his amazing worldwide...
Sonarama
Ahhhh, summertime in Barcelona, can you feel the heat and the beats? Year-round this city's thumping to one rhythm or another, but summer months are a whole different story. For all the music festivals that descend on the town at this time of year, how anyone gets any sleep or does any work is a Catalan mystery. At its heart Barcelona is an electropolis...
