A.P.C. Surplus, Brooklyn by Seth Brau

apcs2.jpg

We were among the excited first today to check out A.P.C.'s latest store (and the second of their outlets worldwide) today in Brooklyn. Called A.P.C. Surplus for its flat 60% discounted prices, the Williamsburg storefront is housed in a beautiful former bank with plenty of rustic charm (i.e. it looks as if it recently caught fire).

At only 600 square feet, the space feels a little small in comparison to their Soho outpost, but they utilize it well with sliding walls and racks on wheels. Its modular design looks modern yet manages to fit well with the classic earthy tones that are a familiar part of A.P.C.'s brand identity, as well as with the old facade of the building.

Filled with discounted items from past seasons and the line's signature denim products (at full price), we found plenty to take home with us. Most exciting though are plans to carry vintage French military pieces; if A.P.C.'s track record is any indication, they're bound to be la crème de la crème of military wear. (Yeah, we speak French.)

Unicorn Boutique
After working in the fashion industry for over a decade, Mélanie Robillard and Amelie Thellen, joined forces to realize their childhood dream of opening a boutique. Unicorn is a cute shop for smart-looking women (and soon men) in Montreal's Plateau/Mile End district. Carrying a hand-picked selection of international, national and local designer brands such as Swedish Hasbeens, Dunderdon, Orbit, Uranium, Tilly Doro, Eugenia Designs,...
Laura Lobdell Boutique
Good things come in small packages, so great things must come from what has to be the smallest store in NYC, Laura Lobdell's jewelry store in the West Village, which opened last week. I'm a longtime fan of her found object-based designs and with the store's large assortment of playful and quotidian jewelry makes it easy to find the right gift for anyone. Perfect for...
Comme des Garçons for H&M
by Ariston AndersonWe haven't been so excited about a diffusion line since Proenza Schouler came to Target. Comme des Garçons, literally "like some boys," is about to take H&M by storm with a men's and women's collection that pulls up some of the avant garde design house's signature trends, like mad polka dots, externally embroidered jackets, wool suits, skirts and shorts with disjointed pieces. The...
Fallow Boutique
The perfect balance between Shiraz and Parmesan is the metaphor that came to mind when we met Nat Denning, a fashion retailer, and Michael, a retail shopfitter, who have combined to create Fallow, one of Australia's most stylish and unique boutiques. Stocking the best of Australian and international labels including Friedrich Gray, Claude Maus, St Augustine Academy and Chronicles of Never, this boutique is...
