Cool Hunting
I don't smoke, but if I did, I would use one of these new Superflat Ninja Ashtrays (above left). A collaboration with Mexico City's hip houseware brand DFC, Yoko Devereaux expands beyond the tailored knitwear the label's known for to add some well-designed home furnishings. Also included in the collection is the Cabron Bottle Opener (below), a solid brass bottle opener featuring a brass knuckle, and Drink Bullet (above right), a series of six shot glasses housed in a glass case shaped like a bullet.
Incorporating Yoko's Clockwork Orange theme of the season, all pieces allude to violence and could double as a weapon. Hand cut from polished glass the ashtray, like its name states, is very flat, keeping it unobtrusive when not in use and sharp at all times. The shot glasses, made of scientific-grade borosilicate glass, are hand-etched and stem from DFC's Science Series.

The limited-edition series of functional artwork will be available at some specialty and department stores nationwide. High-quality yet accessible, get the Cabron Bottle Opener for $126, the Superflat Ninja Ashtrays for $69 each and a set of Drink Bullets for $450.

In our final pick from the current well-edited selection of goods at NYC boutique Project No. 8 we chose this curiosity/art object by Northern California sculptor Seth Kinmont. "The Still" is an edition of 15 hand-blown pyrex receptacles based on a complex mathematical formula that Kinmont derived to condense, reduce and transform a bottle of wine over the course of dinner. By the end...
Artist David Flores sees the world in contours. Known for his skeletal drawings and paintings that divide figures and places into outlined shapes, the latest notch on this prolific artist's belt are two limited-edition Dunnys, Bad and Evil (pictured L-R above). "When I see things, I see shapes on top of them . . . the shapes they're made of," Flores explained from his...
We don't know Charles and Marie personally, but judging by their site I think we'd all have plenty to talk about. In addition to their series of blogs, they have just launched Soupe Du Jour-- an on-line shop with something new every day and only available that day. Today there's a mystical keychain from Brazil, tomorrow the sexiest toothbrush on earth and Wednesday an...

Papa Stour is a new web boutique featuring the work of contemporary Scottish artisans. Neatly organized, the site is browsable by product type or artist and includes plenty of background information on the products and creators. This cashmere camo baby blanket by Queene & Belle is among my favorites in the shop. The silk screened Harris Tweed pillows by site founder Rosie Brown are...
SquidFire is a small t-shirt and design boutique that just launched this past week by Jean-Baptiste Regnard and Kevin Sherry. Each image is hand designed and given individual attention, making the t-shirts like wearable pieces of artwork. The images are very simple-- but totally clean. What makes these so desirable is that they're hand printed in very limited quantities. Men and women styles available--...
