Cool Hunting
One of the last Anglo pastimes to be mined for its kitschy irony, croquet is getting a makeover for playing in cemented environments. A concept in conjunction with Adidas, Alice Kaiserswerth redesigned the croquet set for use in urban areas, liberating the sport from its stuffy past on English lawns.
With its clever design, the hoops can be stuck in grass, like traditional versions, or flip them upside down and a weighted top adapts them for hard surfaces. The ball features raised dots, enabling traction and the durable plastic material can take scuffs and bumps from asphalted surfaces.
The revamped equipment even includes a new Adidas croquet shoe that features a recessed circle in the sole to hold the ball in place and extra protection on the side for when you miss the ball and hit your foot. Mallets fold away into a colorful carrying case for portability. Look out for a pick-up game in a parking lot near you.

Fearless Yachts of Miami Beach offer some of the sleekest, most attractive watercraft we've seen in quite some time. It's probably no accident that these speedboats—Models 28 and 68 we find most appealing—are something a worthy of Sonny Crocket or a James Bond supervillain. Designed by Porsche Design Studios, each vessel is built for speed and control and worthy of the moniker yacht (which...
With the Superbowl on Sunday in Miami you can be sure there will be plenty of tailgating going on. The smartest tailgating equipment we've seen, The Vulcan, is a waterproof cooler compartment, incorporating a BBQ grill and three-piece BBQ tool set into a self-contained unit on rolly wheels. The tote also has padded handles, a shoulder strap and a reinforced base. It's available for...
At the ICFF a couple years back, Modern Convenience's Naugahyde-upholstered skateboards caught our eye for the way they make a familiar object into a sculptural toy. Now this fresh lemon-lime colorway is available exclusively at Coolestshop for $525 and for another $500 you can pick up the coordinating Formula Werks custom-painted New Balance 574s. More images of the board here. Also on Cool Hunting:...

Ron has been focused full-time on The Shadow Conspiracy since selling UGP, a pioneering brand of BMX clothing and accessories. Serious bikers (or those who want to look like them) often customize their bikes or build them from the...
On 5 December 2005, a day now known as “Black Monday” in the surfboard industry, the major manufacturer of the foam “blanks” that form the board's core, Clark Foam, shut its doors, ending an almost 44 year monopoly on the market. No one knows exactly why owner Grubby Clark ceased production (he cites increasing regulations and pressure from the EPA, who denied the claims),...
