Cool Hunting
Once again Virgin Mobile is doing their share of goodwill with their annual Re*Generation Art Auction benefiting homeless youth charities across the U.S. With works from an all-star line up of artists like Jordan Isip (pictured right), Melinda Beck, Calef Brown, Thomas Campbell, the Clayton Brothers, Greg Lamarche and Matt Leines, among others, it's a chance to get your hands on some great work while helping to assuage the often overlooked problem of homeless youth. Marking the beginning of National Youth Homeless Awareness Month, all donated works are up for public bidding at Re*Generation until 1 November at 10pm EST.
The benefit ends with a party on 7 November at Skylight Studios in NYC where all auctioned works will be on display. There will also be a few LG mobile phones redecorated by five of the artists up for grabs (above). Everyone is welcome but capacity is limited. You can pre-register as a VIP to ensure your spot by making a $25 donation. Check out and bid on all of the works up for auction at Re*Generation.

Artists Richard Selesnick and Nicholas Kahn have been collaborating to produce multi-layered exhibitions for the past 20 years, and their most recent project Eisbergfreistadt ("iceberg free state") is currently on view at Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York. Eisbergfreistadt is an exhibition of photographs, paintings and objects that chronicle the developments of an imaginary utopian state during a period of economic and ecologic disaster....
While some have already dismissed skull imagery as a passing trend, we think when it's done right it can be a timeless memento mori. If you're anything like us, you're going to enjoy "I Am As You Will Be: The Skeleton In Art," a group show that opened last week at Cheim & Read Gallery in Chelsea. Like the title of the show suggests,...
"F%#k Cancer We Love Justin" is an art auction with a purpose. All of the proceeds will go directly to artist Justin Van Hoy and family, who for the second time in his young life is battling cancer. Our friends at Poketo Studios are holding the silent auction and participating artists are donating some of their finest pieces towards the cause (including Shepard Fairey's...
by Kelsey KeithLast week we were taken aback at NYC's Pulse Art Fair by artist Dietrich Wegner's "Playhouse," an installation shaped like a mushroom cloud and built like a tree fort covered in swaths of cotton. A study in contradiction, "Playhouse" mingled with tattooed babies and dotted light paintings in Chicago gallerist Carrie Secrist Gallery's booth. Wegner creates "images that are safe and unsettling, abject...
by Ariston Anderson The petite Pratt graduate, Swoon, has quickly climbed through the ranks of street art, raising the bar by using art as politics. A mainstay at the likes of Deitch, MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, her latest project might be her biggest yet. With the backing of Deitch, Swoon recently launched "Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea," a two-part exhibit merging...
by Tamara Warren One of three original works created for the now-iconic poster that Shepard Fairey created in support of Obama is a mixed media stencil collage on a 4 x 6 foot cotton rag paper. Fairey donated this piece to Russell Simmons’s Art for Life Auction, with proceeds going toward a different good cause, the Rush Philanthropic Art Foundation. The foundation is dedicated...
