Ospop Sneakers: The Exclusive by Tim Yu

Ospop.jpg

Not just made in China, these shoes were actually conceived of in the Middle Kingdom as well. For decades, the simple hi-tops have been the footwear of choice for Chinese miners, farmers, construction and factory workers. Called Tian Lang (Mandarin for "Skywolf") Trainers were originally produced in central China close to the Shaolin Temple in the Henan province 50 years ago. The new apparel company Ospop now works with the Tian Lang factory, making them available for the rest of the world.

Originally designed for the worker, they're extremely comfortable shoes with an insole usually used in athletic shoes. They've got a clean industrial-look, made with a twice vulcanized outsole and tough canvas. The character on the side means labor or work and if it can take the abuse of a mine worker, we're pretty sure it can withstand the meanest streets around your city or town.

Available in three different colors, check them out here. Each purchase supports an education fund for those in the Tian Lang area who lack the necessary means for their first year of university studies. Check with Ospop in the near future for purchasing details and dealers.

Generic Man Fall 08
Here's a little peek of what's to come from The Generic Man this fall courtesy of Arktip. The upcoming line looks as if it's made from recycled clothing—most likely Boy Scout or military clothing. There's not much information on this yet, but the recycled cotton outer adds a casual, rough-hewn look. Dark brown laces contrasted with tan is always complimentary and the plaid inner...
Puma x Atmos x Mitsuaki Iwago: Endangered Species Asia Pack
by Kyle Small Next Monday, 28 July 2008, Puma's second series in collaboration with NYC store Atmos and National Geographic photographer Mitsuaki Iwago drops, doubling the small collection from three to six. In addition to the noble purpose of building awareness surrounding endangered animals throughout the world and bringing to light the significance of their possible extinction, we think they make pretty good-looking pairs of...
Keen Ventura Canvas
Dubbed "Hybrid Footwear," Keen's shoe line has a clear emphasis on sustainability. The Ventura Canvas reflects this philosophy, while maintaining a classic, casual sneaker design. Their first completely vegan shoe, the canvas upper uses organic cotton and recycled aluminum eyelets. Like the rest of Keen's line, the Ventura makes comfort a high priority. The removable metatomical footbed—made from jute, cork and natural latex—helps mold...
Tretorn NY Store and Gullwing Collection
Along with the recent opening of Tretorn's first NYC store, their recently announced Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, called Gullwing, is full of shoes riffing on the preppy classic in ways we can get behind. The Skymra, for example, swaps out laces for asymmetrical elastic bands, transforming the classic silhouette of the tennis shoe into an avant-slip-on. The canvas version ($70) in bright yellow with a...
