Cool Hunting
Eclectic, crazy and refreshing, Kaiserin Magazine should be on everyone's required summer reading list. Founded in 2006 by Arnaud-Pierre Fourtané and Didier Fitan, this French-English bilingual biannual calls itself "a magazine for boys with problems and all the girls who like them." It features the work of both established and emerging artists, photographers, authors, designers and illustrators who address homosexuality in their work.
The second issue—called the Ecstasy Collective (or L'Extase Collective for our baguette-wielding friends)—is out now and features diverse content including a hysterical shower orgy photographed in the basement of the Warhol Museum by Bruce LaBruce (pictured below right), black and white sketches of organic and fluid forms by Matthieu Levet, and a series of photographic portraits of ex-lovers by Nicolas Wagner. My favorite feature from Issue 02 is "Voisinage/Neighborhood", the series of ghostly photographs by Christian Siekmeier of different living spaces around where he grew up with childhood crushes posing inside. (Pictured below left.)
The Kaiserin website has additional content under their Galleries section: music, videos, and artwork that complement the print version. Issue 02 is available worldwide at select retailers or from their online shop.

Maguila is a free PDF art magazine and its newest edition is now available for download. Full of spectacular art worthy of whitewashed walls in any gallery, this 94-page issue packs in drawings, paintings, photography, collage and graphic design work from two dozen global artists—most probably unknown to the casual viewer but all deserving their due. Maguila germinated from a idea that started with...
Photographer Alec Soth has been one busy guy lately. In addition to currently exhibiting work in six different galleries New York, England and France, he maintains his own very popular blog, has a new book set for release this fall (Dog Days Bogota) and last year he became an associate member of the renowned photography cooperative Magnum. To add to this list of accomplishments,...
Until now, the thinking person's softcore porn, Box Magazine, has (like un-thinking people's porn) been faithfully publishing in an online format only. With the work-themed issue five that launched earlier this month, the year-old publication goes print, featuring over a hundred pages of full-color photos, reviews, a Lady Sovereign interview (pictured above center), articles and illustrations. Memorable (perhaps even unforgettable) spreads include Diana Krell's...
The second issue of the mindful porn, Box Magazine is out and hotter than the first. Among the 115 pages of tasteful yet tantalizing photos and stories is a sexy sneaker spread titled Hoop Shots by our friend Ryan. This one is another downloadable pdf, but as their popularity swells I think we can expect a print version soon. Previously on CH: Box Mag...

Look for it in independent bookstores, on newsstands, or buy it from their website. via EC....
