Jorg&Olif Scout Bike by Ami Kealoha

scoutbike.jpg

The classic Dutch styling and quality construction of Jorg&Olif's Citybikes made us instant fans when they debuted in the North American market last year, but the price tag (starting at $800) was a little less easy to embrace. Their introduction of the more affordable Scout makes cruising around the neighborhood in style a little more realistic.

Equipped with a light, rear rack, chain guards, internal Shimano hubs and all the features that we liked about the original Citybike, the only difference is that Scout's only available in one- ($495) and three-speed ($595) versions—which is about all you need in most cities anyway. Available in special edition "Mushroom" (pictured) and "Steel Blue" colors as well as black, it's due out 10 August but you can preorder by emailing Jorg&Olif at info [dot] jorgandolif [dot] com or by calling +1 604 877 1850.

Dutch Bike Chicago
While in Chicago last weekend, I had the opportunity to stop by the Dutch Bike Company's brand new Midwestern outpost. Having already wooed Seattlites into adopting the European city bike, founders Stephan Schier and David Schmidt were looking for a second outpost. It turned out that a majority of their special orders were going to Chicago, a city that, under multi-term Mayor Daley's continued green...
Wingrider Bicycle Clip
To add a little Greek god/comic book style to your daily bike commute, these winged straps will do the trick. They'll also do double duty by protecting your pant cuffs from rips and grease stains caused by the chain. Designed by Droog co-founder Gijs Bakker (who got his start designing jewelry), they're made with a reflective PVC for night safety that's also weatherproof. The...
Swobo Folsom Bike: Interview with Founder TIm Parr
After living in NYC for over ten years I finally started riding around the city on a bike this past spring. Of course, as these things go, I now have all sorts of opinions on the urban bike experience. While I'm now surveying all different bikes, the Folsom from Swobo is my new favorite. (Click image for detail.) The Folsom is like a featherweight...
Elektroon Electric Bike
Giving mopeds of yore a new look and an energy boost, Citydoo's Elektroon relies on pedal power to get up to speed before the electric engine kicks in. But once it does, it can hit speeds up to 40 mph and the battery will keep it going for about 80 miles. To recharge, the bike plugs into a standard outlet and six hours later,...
