dREALM by Tim Yu

Forget made in the U.S.A., everything out of dREALM is made in New York City. House labels 38 Regular and Kim Bros are designed by the dREALM team—urban tailor Sage Kim, his brother Julian Kim (who also made all the furniture in their retail space/studio) and artist Che Jen (also of the Barnstormer).

Kim Bros offers graphic tees and one-offs while 38 Regular, the high-end line, offers a variety of cut and sew pieces and handmade accessories. Tending toward older and more traditional methods of tailoring, many of their pieces are handmade in their studio located in back of the shop (below right). Following this theme of quality over quantity, all of their pieces are offered in extremely limited quantities and only at the East Village location in New York City.

In addition to their keen eye for design and quality craftsmanship, what really sets dREALM apart from other brands is the tremendous amount of love that goes into each piece, like the meticulously handmade Josie Wales handkerchief (right). When we say handmade we mean hand-stitched on the premises. Each is one of a kind, featuring different graphics by Che Jen. They retail for $60 each and can be purchased by contacting them at info[at]38regular[dot]com or call +1 212 260 5467 for purchasing details and more info. Look out for more from dREALM on CH in the near future.

Comme des Garçons opened their first of their "Guerilla" stores in 2004 in Berlin. It was supposed to stay open for one year, but how can you put an end to such a good thing? So the women who ran the Guerilla store opened Lil*Shop, which carries vintage Comme des Garçons, as well as special Nike products like Nike Vintage Running shoes. It's a...
A.P.C. Los Angeles Flagship Store
A.P.C., the label beloved the world over for its understated Parisian style, opens its doors in the West Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles today. The second flagship in the U.S. (the other is in New York) brings their always-classic denim line (including the cult-status raw stuff of course) to the West Coast, along with the subtle feminity of their women's clothes, staple menswear, their...
Interview with Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi, Co-founders of Odin and New Concept Boutique, Den.
We caught up with Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi, founders of Odin, for the opening of Den—their fourth boutique in New York (following their two Odin stores and Oliver Spencer). Like Odin, Den carries hip clothing from younger designers that is consummately wearable, however Den will feature one designer at a time for four to six week periods. Similar to a gallery, this exhibit-like...
DEAR:55 and Travessia Boutiques
Two new boutiques recently broke ground on the Lower East Side. Williamsburg antiques dealers Moon Rhee and designer Hey Ja Do were bored with the typical local vintage store fare. Now, their newly opened DEAR:55 on Clinton Street with its gleaming spaceship white glow, offers a modern twist on the norm. Inside the alabaster space is a meticulous selection of vintage and current collections,...
In God We Trust Boutique
SoHo's latest additon, In God We Trust, opened 1 May 2007, and perfectly translates the curiosity/antique shop essence of its Brooklyn predecessor. Closet-like racks bear clothes and accessories by Ritten House, Shennan, Kristen Coates, Beard and Bangs, Harvey Hats, M. Carter, and Shara Porter—designers with a homespun aesthetic much like the In God We Trust label. And as for the much–loved In God We...
Kaight Eco-Boutique
When Kaight owner Kate McGregor initially envisioned an eco-friendly boutique, she saw it in L.A. where the green movement had seriously taken root. Thankfully, she decided that a fair-trade boutique in New York would be a little more interesting. Now, the lofty space offers something for conscientious and discerning shoppers alike. A worktable finds organic cotton jeans from Loomstate piled next to beachy glass...

No Quiet Boutique in Japan
No Quiet is a small boutique located outside of Tokyo on a quiet, non-descript corner. Offering clothing, jewelery, bags, stationary and other accessories, some of our favorite items (pictured below from left to right) include the hook t-shirt, a loosely pieced together cotton t-shirt, the 2-hole ring and the receipt calendar, which is printed on a receipt roll. No Quiet and their design team...
