Cool Hunting
There's no particular reason for writing this now, but as a dyed in the wool fan of Paul Smith, I'm constantly on the look out for others inspired by, or who inspire, the great man. Over the coming week, we'll bring you a series of such items, starting with this handsome cycling shirt.
For the first time in years, the Tour de France began in the U.K. over the weekend, with Le Grand Depart taking place in London. The young Paul Smith was an out-and-out cycling fanatic and it has never left him, so you can imagine his excitement at the Tour coming to his homeland. To mark it, he's had a hand in designing this vintage-inspired jersey along with cycle-wear specialists Rapha. It comes in the same color green that's worn by the sprint winner, and embroidered on the back is a map of Stage One of the Tour through southern England. It's available online from Paul Smith for £180.

Hitting shelves this fall, the forthcoming line is the collaboration's second season, following a highly successful 2008 launch. While the new clothes officially take inspiration from White's life "along with his interest in music and travel,"...

To fill the void of bicycle apparel that's as stylish as it is utilitarian comes swrve, a small Los Angeles-based company. Their collection of reasonably-priced, American-made clothing has everything from classic wool riding caps to light-weight, water-repellent riding knickers—all constructed with a discerning eye for a contemporary aesthetic. A...
by Kori Schulman Speedo teamed up with Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçons, unveiling its fourth collection of designer swimwear. The collection features a range of swimsuits, t-shirts, swim caps and goggles for men and women in two designs: a repetitive Speedo logo print and vibrant tie dye. We’ve never seen a Speedo look so good. View the full collection at the Speedo website, or...
Rapha Performance Roadwear's new collaboration with tailor Timothy Everest, one of the leading practitioners of the New Bespoke Movement, isn't doing anything to help stop the brand lust I already have for the cyclewear company. I was recently invited by Slate Olsen, Rapha's General Manager for USA operations, to check it out at Signature Cycles' Manhattan showroom near West End Avenue, a trek I made...
Unless you're going for the whole ironic dork look, any cyclist knows that it's impossible to look good wearing a bike helmet. The awkward, bulkiness that makes you look like a doofus is the same thing that protects your head. Yakkay, a Danish company, is trying to disprove conventional wisdom with a new approach to helmet design — one that values safety and style...
