Miniature Cardboard Audio Equipment by Mike Giles

pileosynths_sm.jpg

These miniature cardboard models of vintage audio equipment are the brainchild of visual artist and sound designer Dan McPharlin according to Dan they are “an interesting experiment to render hi tech objects in a low tech medium such as paper or cardboard.” Each one is painstakingly made by hand in limited production or as a commissioned work. With prices starting at $60 this is the kind of art that‘s well within reach. Check out more pics of Dan’s work in his Flickr photoset and email him (purpleowl [at] primus [dot] com [dot] au) for inquiries.

Yesterday at the Fiera Milano, walking through the sprawling campus of the supergroup Poltrona Frau, I ran into the New York designer Stephen Burks, who took a moment to chat with me about his new line of eco-conscious ware for Italian manufacturer Cappellini. Called Cappellini Love, the collection is comprised of a series of vases and bowls made from glass fragments, and a small...

Created by Korean designer Sung-kyu Nam, it's basically an illuminating straw outfitted with an internal battery and single LED light, which can be stabilized with any cup or glass. Currently in prototype stage, the lower portion of the straw casing contains the power supply, the head holds the light...
Eric Scollon Ceramic Sex Toys
Our exploration of SF's Look boutique continues, leading us to local artist Eric Scollon's cock rings and butt plugs made of ceramic in the style of Tang dynasty blue-and-white pieces. The objects flirt "with the distinctions between art and craft, utility and uselessness and the boundaries between the world of art and the “real world.” Each one is unique, painted by hand and available...
Generic Man Sportman Sneakers
My latest sneaker purchase, the Sportsman by Generic Man, have all the aesthetic qualities of a great sneaker with high-end materials and production methods to match. Using an almost imperceptibly subtle faux reptile skin (textured white Italian leather) and handmade in Portugal, the look perfectly toes the line between dress and sport. (Click images for detail view.) Based in Los Angeles with a small...
