Cool Hunting

On a rainy day in Paris circa 1965, Leon-Claude Duhamel observed attentively as people rushed by in soaking wet clothes without an umbrella. It was on this day that the K-way jacket was born. Lightweight and completely waterproof, the jacket can be folded into a small, elastic belted hip bag when not in use.
An instant success with first year sales of more than 250,000 pieces, the brand was set to become a legend. Due to some quiet times in the 1980s, the brand was bought and sold numerous times. Lucky for us it ended up in the right hands as 2007-08 sees new brand positioning and the reissue of their classic windbreaker. These gems are currently only available in Canada. I spoke with Matt Feigin, President of K-Way North America, and he mentioned some big plans on the horizon, but for the time being U.S. style-makers will have to sit tight. To do it right, Matt said they are taking their time and being selective in choosing U.S. outlets.
You can check out their full line at K-way and their classic wind breaker is available here for CDN$40.
Cool Hunting has two large Classic Full Zip K-Ways to give away to two lucky readers. To enter, follow the contact link at the bottom of the page, select "K-way Giveaway" from the pull-down menu and send us an email before Monday, 23 July 2007, 11:59 p.m. EST. We'll choose a winner at random.

Regulating body heat is always a challenge during cold weather — it's always too hot or too cold, especially when running around town from crowded subway to overheated office. Helly Hansen's Odin PCM soft shell jacket solves the problem with technology that automatically adjusts according to your body heat. Fabric called Phase Change Material uses paraffin to store and release heat when needed most....
This past winter star Japanese designer Hiroshi Fujiwara was always blogging about his epic snowboarding trips all over the world. The snow-covered old growth terrain was always so inviting but I also took note of the brightly colored minimalist jackets that he and his crew would wear and wondered what brand they were sporting. Through a Neil Harmon photo essay on Honeyee called Still...
When Nike's M-65 Patchwork Jacket showed up at the CH headquarters today—reactions were mixed, but anything that generates that much controversy is undeniably appealing. In fact, no two jackets are the same because of randomly placed patchwork layouts. Produced specifically for this holiday season, the outerlayer twists the traditional concept of patchwork into a highly technical construction. Built off the same specs as the...
This week, our friends at Refinery29 uncovered some exceptional footwear styles for guys that use fabric and water-proof treatments in a modern, fashionable way. There are plenty of puddle-friendly possibilities—tapered zip-up boots from SWIMS have an almost Dandy refinement; rubberized Chucks from John Varvatos are tailored for the traditionalist who still wants to keep his feet dry; while Gram's Softshell Sneakers are chic enough...
While in Chicago last weekend, I had the opportunity to stop by the Dutch Bike Company's brand new Midwestern outpost. Having already wooed Seattlites into adopting the European city bike, founders Stephan Schier and David Schmidt were looking for a second outpost. It turned out that a majority of their special orders were going to Chicago, a city that, under multi-term Mayor Daley's continued green...
