I Met The Walrus by Tim Yu

Around the time of Lennon's 1969 "bed-in" phase a 14 year-old Beatles fanatic named Jerry Levitan snuck into John Lennon's Toronto hotel room for a little chat. Thirty-five years later Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative of this event by marrying the traditional pen sketches of James Braithwaite with digital illustration by Alex Kurina in a spell-binding animated short, showcasing Lennon's boundless wit and timeless message. When asked for commentary about the film and it's festival tour dates so far, Braithwaite said, "it has allowed both Josh and I the unique opportunity to watch Busta Rhymes and eat a grilled cheese sandwich while standing at the cash register of a diner in Hollywood."

It's hard to explain, but watch the trailer online at I Met the Walrus.

SXSW: A Scanner Darkly Sneak Preview
Fifteen years ago, Richard Linklater irreversibly altered the course of American cinema when he made Slacker, a movie that defined a generation and precipitated the indie film movement. Now, with A Scanner Darkly, his animated adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s sci-fi novel about a drug-ravaged society, it looks like Linklater’s off in uncharted territory once again. At SXSW yesterday, Cool Hunting was among the...
Be Here to Love Me
Like many obsessions, Margaret Brown's fascination with Townes Van Zandt began with one song. After a friend played her the folk singer's "Waiting Round to Die," she bought all the records she could get her hands on. The resulting documentary, Be Here to Love Me is the kind of work that can only come from an artist's devotion, much in the way that Townes...
