Wind to Light by Ami Kealoha

windtolight1.jpg

Using wind power, Jason Bruges' installation Wind to Light illustrates alternative energy sources in the form of a cloud of LEDs. Mini wind turbines power the lights (both are mounted on poles); as the wind moves through them, it creates a visual pattern.

Commissioned by onedotzero and Riba for the recent Architecture Week 2007, the Wind to Light is on display at the Southbank Center in London and has been extended through 1 September 2007.

Doris Salcedo: Shibboleth
The Tate Modern always does an incredible job of reinventing their Great Turbine Hall with large, encompassing installations and with Doris Salcedo's "Shibboleth" they may have outdone themselves. Stretching imagination and the definition of sculpture and installation itself, Salcedo created a subterranean crack in the floor that stretches 584 feet across the entire length of the Hall. The upshot is a jagged abyss that...
Bridge
Bridge was London artist Michael Cross' installation for the 2006 London Design Festival, allowing any member of the flock to walk on water inside a former church. Cross achieved the effect by half-filling the century-old church with water and installing steps that seemed to magically appear as visitors walked across the water. Purely mechanical, the weight of a person activates each step, which rises...
Weather Report
Weather Report, the second eco-themed show at The Gallery @ Adventure Ecology in London, looks at the environment and the threats of climate change. A slight departure from the disposable themes in the first show Waste & the Natural World that we wrote about earlier this year, Weather Report is about the ephemeral, focusing on the sky, and more specifically, the clouds floating through...
Guerilla Lighting London
A hundred-strong guerilla army is descending on London this Thursday night, to peacefully spread their love of light. After successfully turning Manchester many different colours in November 2006 (see images), Martin Lupton and his team from the Building Design Partnership are going to do the same in the English capital as part of Switched On London—a lighting festival that's been centered on a part...
