P.S.1 Warm Up 2007 Opening Night with DFA by Seth Brau

On 30 June 2007 P.S.1 presents the opening day of their annual summer dance party, Warm Up, hosted by DFA Records. They've got DJ sets by Juan Maclean, Shit Robot (Marcus Lamkin) and Tim & Tim (Tim Goldsworthy and Tim Sweeney), as well as a live performance by Invisible Conga People, on the lineup—sweet!

The backdrop of this year’s Warm Up is Liquid Sky (pictured) by Los Angeles-based firm Ball-Nogues , winner of the 2007 MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program. (Also see Maximillian's Schell and our video featuring their collaborators Materials and Applications.) Liquid Sky immerses the viewer in kaleidoscopic color created by sunlight filtering through an array of translucent, tinted Mylar petals that resemble blossoming flowers of stained glass. warmup3.jpg They're also installing brightly-colored community hammocks and "Droopscape," a shifting and flowing piece supported by drench towers that periodically soak visitors below with their gravity-induced tip buckets.

Together, the music, architecture and exhibition program provide a unique multi-sensory experience for music fans, artists and families alike. The amazing installations and large open spaces at P.S.1 make it the perfect setting for the upbeat dance music of DFA. It's really the most fun summer party with the best mixture of music and art and is not to be missed. I know I say that often, but I really mean it this time.
