by Ami Kealoha

urbaniteproject.jpg

The Urbantine Project is a London-based design competition with a goal of supporting unknown architects and designers. In conjunction with Tent London, the massive group of exhibitions happening at the Old Truman Brewery during the London Design Festival this year, entrants are tasked with designing a space addressing the "issue of rapid change in the 21st century workplace." Check out some examples of "fast architecture" here/

The winner will receive a £10k budget to execute and exhibit their idea during the event. Submissions are due 16 July 2007.

The Lottery

by Seth Brau

On the eve of the real NBA draft next Wednesday, 27 June 2007, No Mas, the art, apparel and media company that explores "the deeper meaning of sports" is holding its own draft, The Lottery. Described as a retrospective redrafting of the first 105 lottery picks from 1985-1995, every attendee of the event is considered a manager and has the opportunity to draft an original portrait of these famous 105. (Pictured above left.) The Warholesque portraits are beautifully crafted and framed and 105 people attending the event will walk away with one of these pieces free of charge. The chances of snagging an original piece of artwork are high and the event is really something new and different.

There will also be complimentary beverages and a sneak preview of the No Mas and Puma "First Round" Hi Top collaboration. Check here to see an in-depth look at the whole process of The Lottery.

Common Projects Sneakers

by Ami Kealoha

commonprojects_sneakers.jpg

Stuck in an endless debate on the virtues of color, material, brand, cultural allegiances and street cred, those deliberating their next sneaker purchase often find themselves at an impasse. Our vote goes for the classic and simple, especially when it comes to a worthwhile investment like Common Projects' Achilles mid-top sneaker.

A collaboration between designers Prathan Poopat and Flavio Girolami, the Common Projects' Achilles mid-top perfectly exemplifies the brand's criteria, with the stylish rise, uniform gray color and stitching, supple Nappa leather base and signature model number stamp. One look and it's clear this season's sneakers are altogether seasonless, making the choice, at least this time around, an easy one.

Beci Orpin: In the Shadows

by Lost At E Minor

beci_orpinflyer.jpg

Sydney's Monster Children Gallery has an exhibition of new works from Australian artist Beci Orpin kicking off tonight, 21 June 2007. "In The Shadows" sees Orpin "expanding on themes she has been exploring for some time—secrets, darkness, folklore and adolescent memories. Taking her past work on wood into 3-dimensions, Orpin will install a tree whose branches tell multiple stories alongside smaller casted forms that merge collage, sculpture and ready-mades. She will also create new works on paper—bold and colorful—that hark back to the days of craft and domestic arts."

Ebony Bones

by SummerSeventySix

ebonybones.jpg ebonybones1.jpg

This is none other than Ebony Bones—a great name for an incredible singer who is as yet unsigned but getting a load of word of mouth buzz in London, due mostly to her frenetic live performances. Don't be fooled by the good looks. She's got Peaches mouth, Missy Elliot's sense of the ridiculous and a band as tight as The White Stripes and frantic as The Hives. She's set to make an appearance at this weekend's Glastonbury Festival with her bag of bizarrely-named tunes like "Don't Fart On My Heart," which you can see the award-winning video for here. You can sample the rest of her wares at Ebony Bones' MySpace.
