Hess is More Open
by Tim Yu
Broken up like a tennis tournament, the Hess is More Open began in New York 1 June 2007 with a live performance by Cool Hunting favorite, Hess is More. A trio, Mikkel Hess, Nikolaj Hess and Jens Bjornkjaer, will be performing new and original live sets throughout the month at various venues mixing electronic and acoustic elements into an entirely new experience.
This weekend Hess is More performs at Nublu and Monkeytown with avant-pop group Something in Spanish, composers of original music for Cool Hunting Video. Mixing everything from 50's pop to experimental electronic, the live show is upbeat, danceable and surely not to miss. Even better, the 9 June show at Monkeytown will be accompanied with visuals by our good friends at m ss ng p eces. Additional performances including the quarter-final, semi-final and final are slated for later this month, including a live show presented by Flavorpill at the American Museum of Natural History. More info on the Hess is More Open here.

Now Playing at CH and Garcia Giveaway
by Ami Kealoha
We're pleased to have the illustrious Seth Brau as the latest addition to Team CH. In addition to founding Five Three Footwear when he was still in his teens and his current animation work, he also has pretty good taste in music. What follows are a few of his current favorites.
Though Seth admits he's not the biggest of Dead Heads, we all agreed that Fader's new Garcia poster is a clever and well-executed design. (Click image for detail.) The accompanying tee—both commemorate Fader's annual Icon/Photo issue, which is devoted to Jerry this year—is a subtle homage.
You can download the issue here and you can win the shirt and poster by following the contact link at the bottom of the page, selecting "Garcia Giveaway" from the pull-down menu and letting us know before Monday, 11 June 2007, 11:59 p.m. EST what contemporary band you think owes the biggest debt to the Grateful Dead. We'll choose a winner at random. If you don't want to take your chances, you can buy the poster and tee here.
Hot Chip Live (iTunes exclusive)
By now you should have both of
Hot Chip’s albums. If not, go get them, and then check out this live recording. An iTunes exclusive these are totally new renderings of their best songs, just like their amazing live shows.

Savoir Adore
This young duo’s music is really hard to categorize. But that’s a good thing when every track is better than the next and they all fit perfectly together like some wild fairytale. From eerie synth to classical guitars and wailing voices to crazy themes, it’s all wonderfully awesome. Check them out on Myspace.
Justice
Slated for a 10 July release in the U.S., the French band Justice’s first album † (yup, that's what it's called) is already blowing up worldwide. Let the upbeat dancy tracks speak for themselves. Check out their
Myspace for some samples and make sure to watch their video for D.A.N.C.E.
Kubrik Pop-up Club: Barcelona, Berlin and Lisbon
by Tim Yu
We've seen the pop-up store, but a pop-up club? Kubrik is a modular open-air club located in Barcelona, Berlin and Lisbon for this summer only. Designed by Modular Beat and Light Life, the club is an open construction of light-up plastic boxes that make up the walls, hallways, DJ station and bar. Featuring a variety of European DJs, the clubs will be open until September 2007.
For more info on your respective city including address, events and featured DJs, visit Kubrik Barcelona, Berlin or Lisbon.
Lígia Carteiro Anatomical Heart Lamp
by Ami Kealoha
An allusion to the Portuguese saying "cold hands, warm heart" (the effect of being in love), this porcelain lamp is shaped like an anatomical heart. Created by Portuguese designer Lígia Carteiro, it uses a low wattage bulb allowing it to be held while illuminated. It's €60 from Vinçon.
