ITP Spring Show 2007 by Tim Yu

ITPSpring2007.jpg

NYU's ITP (Interactive Telecommunication Program) students are once again harnessing interactive technologies to bring you futuristic projects that are both artistic and practical. This Spring Show, like all the ITP shows in the past, continues to push boundaries of interactivity in the real and digital worlds.

What can you expect at this Spring's show? Two among many projects to look out for are The Red Carpet, an installation by Jaewook Shin and Christian Bovine, replicates the experience of walking on a Red Carpet and responds to the amount of skin revealed by the user. More skin results in a greater amount of flashing lights and crowd sounds. A more practical project, Improving Posture and Pressure for Handwriting by Daniel Soltis and Heidi Press, measures handwriting pressure and foot position to help grade school students improve their handwriting posture.

Showcasing a range of interactive sights, sounds and technologies, ITP's Spring Show will run 8-9 May 2007 from 5 to 9 pm. Click here for more info.

Edgartista: The New Millennium
Meticulous and relentless, Edgartista's four year project, "The New Millennium," began with a sketch on his daily train commute from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Inspired by the urban landscape, the upshot is a large-scale futuristic drawing that incorporates major landmarks from cities around the world, signifying unification among everyone to create this new life for the future. Edgartista, whose full name is Edgar Gonzales, moved...
Deviate
Featuring work by artists who are "altering materials and repurposing objects that prompt viewers to investigate the act of looking and perceiving," the unifying theme behind the impending group exhibition "Deviate" may be a little broad but it makes for a show that speaks to CH's penchant for the obsessively subversive. The nine artists represented take a largely conceptual approach using a diverse collection...
Model Citizens NYC Exhibition
by Alexandra Polier The latest satellite event to showcase clever designs like Charles Constantine's Memento coffee table/coffin (pictured at right) in competition with ICFF this weekend is Model Citizens NYC 2009, a forum for independent designers at Exit Art, just around the corner from the bigger fair's Javitz Center home. Like the American Design Club, Model Citizens is an exhibition society with a mission of...
Avedon Fashion: 1944-2000
Of the many insights to be gleaned from the upcoming exhibition at the International Center of Photography featuring the work of Richard Avedon's work from 1944-2000, I found it particularly fascinating that the photographer would forge such intense connections with his subjects that he would often leave sittings feeling embarrassed over what they shared. The show explores these intimate relationships and his many contributions...
