Two New Hemp Foods
by Ami Kealoha
As hemp steadily makes the transition from hippie health food to antioxidant du jour, two new products stand out for tasting good while also reaping the benefits of the seed. Rich with Omegas, all 10 essential Amino Acids and other vitamins and nutrients, hemp is a good alternative source of protein and, in the case of Hempmilk, it's a good stand-in for milk.
Available in chocolate, vanilla and original flavors, Hempmilk has none of the overwhelming soy flavor and the resident CH health nut liked the chocolate flavor but said he still prefers the thicker texture of other non-dairy milks. Buy a pint from Hempmilk.
Using hemp to flavor their organic dark chocolate bars, Dagoba mixes in hemp, pumpkin and sunflower seeds and seasons it with Balinese sea salt. The result is a complementary mix of nuts and chocolate livened up by the bite of the salt. Look for it in your local grocery store or get a case ($36) from Dagoba.
FoodShouldTasteGood's Chocolate Tortilla Chips
by Evan Orensten
We were expecting a total disaster when we tried these chocolate tortilla chips from FoodShouldTasteGood. Finding the balance between salty and sweet is always a challenge and often disappointing. These chips deliver both in creating a chip on the edge. They are salty enough to accent the corn and the crunch, and just chocolately enough to be noticed and appreciated without being sweet or cloying. They're perfect with a hearty salsa, or on a desert plate. Try them crinkled over ice cream.
Available online by the case (12 6oz bags) for $35.88 and at stores including Whole Foods.
Mechanical Music Box
by Ami Kealoha
The Mechanical Music Box comes with paper strips and a hole punch for DIY music-making without a need for actual musical talent. The little devices presents endless possibilities for creating your own melodies, covering pop songs or to add a low-tech juvenile sounds to your next remix. It also comes with a pre-punched "Happy Birthday" strip if you're just looking for something gifty.
It's available from The Afternoon or The Curiosity Shop.
Voiceprints by Pierre Proske
by Tim Yu

Inspired by repeating visual units in Japanese textile design Voiceprints, created by Pierre Proske, uses specially-designed software to translate voice patterns into a design. More specifically, Proske loops and analyzes frequencies to create an algorithm that organizes visual elements into a representation of a person's voice.
Like a synaesthetic version of DNA11 prints made using genetic material, each spiraling abstract voiceprint is uniquely characteristic of an individual speaker according to their intonation. Proske aims to bring the project full circle by turning the designs into textiles in the near future.

Refinery29 x BBlessing Pop-Up Shop
by Ami Kealoha
Launched today, the Refinery29 x BBlessing Pop-Up Shop is a collaboration between BBlessing, the newish men's boutique in the Lower East Side, and Refinery29, NYC's doyenne of shopping, offering 13 items exclusively in the online store until 3 June 2007. In addition to carrying BBlessing's own label, Surface to Air, Raf by Raf Simons and Rag & Bone, they've teamed up to create an exclusive line that includes t-shirts, books and jewelry.
The tees, called "The Beyond," are a series featuring line drawings by NY-based artist (and BBlessing in-house designer) Nicholas Kratochvil. Jewelry includes two necklaces each by Surface 2 Air (a Polished Steel Key Pendant and a Rubber-Dipped Sword Pendant) and Digby & Iona (a Fighting cock in either silver with topaz or gold with rubies). Two gilt-edged, Italian leather-bound books—a hardcover blank notebook and a travel journal with a soft cover, international info, maps and graph paper—round out the collection.
