Tempt One Art Benefit by Tim Yu

A lot of graffiti these days doesn't go much further than a watered-down cliche, but Tempt One isn't "these days." One of the original graffiti writers that pioneered the L.A. scene, his clean old-school style is unmistakable. The Tempt One Art Benefit, a show to raise awareness and funds for Tempt in his battle with ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's disease), will be this Saturday, 10 March 2007, and should not be missed. In an effort to help provide Tempt with the aid he needs, over 120 prolific graffiti and contemporary artists have banded together to produce this benefit at Urb gallery. (Click on images to see the list of artists). Over 100 original canvases and 18 spray can sculptures will be for sale and all proceeds from the event will be donated to Tempt's family. If you can't make the event, go to Tempt's Myspace page to donate.

Blk/Mrkt One
Now in it's fifth year, Los Angeles' Blk/Mrkt Gallery has been showing the kind of artwork that if you haven't already heard about it on Cool Hunting (or elsewhere) you will soon. Their new book, Blk/Mrkt One is a catalogue of their first Artists' Annual, collecting more established and up-and-coming work, like Elaine Bradford's knitted sculptures, the haunting, visionary paintings of David Choe, and...
Dreamland Artist Club 2005
I first became an ESPO (aka Steve Powers) fan a few years back when he roller-brushed over graffiti with his own tag during an undercover stint with LA's graffitti removal team. His next-level street art and candyland aesthetic (check out the bakery he staged at Deitch's Armory booth earlier this year) came together perfectly with his Dreamland Artist Club 2004. This year's version of...
Area Code T-Shirts
By Julie Wolfson An alternative way to show local pride, MikeJames Clothing Company's tees give a shout out to home towns with graphic images of states and area codes. Mark Wahlberg, pictured at right, is even a fan. The area code shirts are the brainchild of long time friends Mike Kirschenbaum and James Starr. Printed in the U.S. on 100% free trade, 100% cotton American...
Papergirl Street Art Project
by Ariston Anderson When it comes to street art, it’s difficult not to reinvent the wheel. We often see the same wheatpaste graphics or stencil styles over and over. That’s why we were thrilled that our friend, Berlin artist Aisha Ronniger’s pet project, Papergirl, is starting to gain traction. Ronniger started the project in 2005 when there was still debate over whether or not to...
