Jason Young: New Works by Ami Kealoha

Jasonyng Newworks

Jason Young, the New York-based artist who makes "high-tech minimal 'trompe-l’oeuil'" paintings, has a show opening this Thursday, 15 March 2007, at NYC's Cristinerose gallery. The exhibition features recent works that layer resin and other materials over honeycomb alloy, a material used in the construction of airplanes, for an effect that adds surprising dimension. (To see his intensive process, watch this recent CH video.) Coupled with the subtle randomly ordered patterns, Jason's work has an organic—even cosmic—quality, while embracing both the artificial and sensual nature of his materials.

Walton Ford
For years I've been completely in love with Walton Ford's meticulously detailed watercolors of animals, so you might imagine that I was practically giddy to see his new work now on view at Paul Kasmin Gallery. On first glance Ford's paintings might be mistaken for 19th century nature illustrations, but beyond the flawlessly rendered historical aspect of the paintings, the images often integrate both...
Deviate
Featuring work by artists who are "altering materials and repurposing objects that prompt viewers to investigate the act of looking and perceiving," the unifying theme behind the impending group exhibition "Deviate" may be a little broad but it makes for a show that speaks to CH's penchant for the obsessively subversive. The nine artists represented take a largely conceptual approach using a diverse collection...
Kenichi Yokono: New Work
Since our first mention of Kenichi Yokono in 2006, the Japanese artist has been working at a furious pace and garnering attention from gallerists and collectors alike. For the past three years, Mark Moore Gallery has been showing Yokono's work during the Pulse Contemporary Art Fairs, while in 2007 the gallery gave the artist his first solo show stateside. The forthcoming show at Mark...
Annie Kevan: All the Presidents' Girls
by Ariston Anderson At first glance, the collection of portraits FAS Contemporary's Volta booth appears to be a wall of extremely beautiful women throughout the ages, each one quickly created in delicate strokes of oil paint. But then Monica Lewinsky's face pops out at you and is that Paula Jones? British painter Annie Kevan's solo show features every Presidential girlfriend on record. Although the majority...
