OKOK Gallery: Free Parking by Tim Yu

MelKadelsurroundedbyangels.jpg

Seattle's OKOK Gallery recently opened “Free Parking,” a collection of ink and graphite drawings by ten emerging artists. Often drawings incorporated into exhibitions are mere accents to the main attraction, however OKOK cleverly curates a group of works that explore the experiential and immediate nature of drawing. Mel Kadel's "Surrounded by Angels" (pictured, click for detail) is a humorous and playful use of the classic and fundamental artform. More images by John Casey, Ian Francis, Jen Corace, Zac Culler and Zachary Rossman after the jump.

Behind the Seen
Artists best known for their work in public often have an entirely private body of work that doesn't make it out into view. Recognizing this, Michael DeFeo (the Flower Guy) assembled Behind the Seen, an international group show featuring rarely seen artwork not typically associated with the artists. Including work from Blek le Rat, Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Richard Hambleton, Keith Haring, Maya Hayuk,...
Luke Feldman: The Whimsical World of Skaffs
Australian artist Luke Feldman's exhibition of visual and audio artworks, "The Whimsical World of Skaffs," opens at Seattle's Bluebottle Art Gallery today, 2 October 2007 and runs through 30 October 2007. Combining visual works with atmospheric music (also composed by Feldman), the world of Skaffs is an AV experience, evidently. With illustrations composed of simple bold lines, vibrant colors give Feldman's compositions movement and...
Rabbit Hole
A group show at the Sala de Arte Moneda (SAM) in Santiago, Chile, "Rabbit Hole" features installations by Simon Chapman, Patricia Dominguez and Elisita Punto curated by Constanza Guell. The show runs until 27 July 2007 in a gritty part of Santiago. During this cold winter, viewers can step into the gallery and walk into another dimension. Chapman altered the gallery space by building...
Silly Adults
The group show "Silly Adults," curated simply around the idea of "celebrating the spirit of life" was inspired by the recent birth of gallerist Nikolai Wallner's son. The playful optimism of the exhibition suits common themes of contemporary art well, bringing together works that have a fresh, childlike approach to subject and technique. The chunky ringlets of hair in German artist Cristophe Ruckhäberle's painting...
