Volivik Chandelier by Ami Kealoha
Made from Bic pens by Madrid-based design studio enPieza, the Volivik chandelier pays homage to "the movement of Charleston fringe and the rhythm of Baroque patterns...the shape of a bulb, [and] the Bic ballpoint pen as an 20th century design." The transluscent version does what chandeliers due best, refracting and casting delicate patterns of light onto the walls and ceiling. Limited to an edition of 30, each lamp costs $1000.

Early Future Lamp by Ingo Maurer
Here at CH we think every day should be Earth Day, but we also think 38-year-old holiday deserves honoring as a way to single out projects and products that keep the environment in mind. Today we'll be bringing you the best of the eco-web, as well as a few of our own finds. The first of its kind to use organic LEDs (OLEDs), Ingo...

Stephen Burks: Cappellini Love
Yesterday at the Fiera Milano, walking through the sprawling campus of the supergroup Poltrona Frau, I ran into the New York designer Stephen Burks, who took a moment to chat with me about his new line of eco-conscious ware for Italian manufacturer Cappellini. Called Cappellini Love, the collection is comprised of a series of vases and bowls made from glass fragments, and a small...

New from the generations-old family glassware-makers Riedel, this series of decanters takes its inspiration from birds for a collection that's as striking as it is functional. Designed by Maximillian Riedel (also responsible for leading the stemless revolution) and his father Georg and handmade by artisans in their Austrian factory, the leaded crystal vessels are all aerodynamic lines and dramatic dimensions. While the Swan (above...

LED Loom Lamp
The first in a line of "organic technology" products, this LED Loom Lamp from Brooklyn based Lwindesign studio weaves reddish branches of Ash coppice around a ring of white LEDs. Casting shadows on surrounding walls and adding a touch of nature to interiors, the lamp uses a traditional weave. The organic materials (part of Lwin's aim to integrate local forestry into his work) are...

Six Out-of-the-Hearth Fireplaces
Sooty, ashy and smoky, traditional fireplaces can be more hassle than their mood-setting abilities are worth (and if you've seen Factory Girl, the romance of a fire looks especially trite when it sets a clichéd sex scene). These downsides look all the more dismal considering the environmental hazards posed by such an inefficient heat source. What follows are CH picks to keep you warm,...
