Cool Hunting

Ami Sioux has a different take when it comes to travel photography. The Paris-based photographer just released REYKJAVIK 64°08N 21°54W, the first installment of a five part series. Sioux asked 50 people from Reykjavik to hand-draw a map leading to a place of their choosing that was significant or important to them for any reason. She then follows this treasure hunt of sorts, finds and photographs these places, and couples the photo with the original hand drawn map in the book. As a result the book is not a guide to the new café or club, but rather a unique way of discovering different parts of the city as interpreted by those who live and work in it every day. It's an interesting look at the city as Sioux stylishly depicts both the journey and the destination. The book is currently not available in the U.S., but you can find it on Scintilla Ltd. BERLIN 52°32N 13°24E, PARIS 48°50N 2°23E, LONDON 51 31N 0°04 W, and NEW YORK 40°43N 73°59W will be released consecutively. See more images here.

by Laurice Parkin The video art of Saskia Olde Wolbers is transfixing to watch not only for the dreamlike fluidity accompanied by surreal narrative, but also to see the intensely complex handmade models that the artists films. These miniature sets combine both the architectural space and uniquely constructed parts to bring the artist's imaginative landscape to life. Unpopulated and desolate, the worlds are beautiful, strange...

We...
