Jeff Zimmerman: Of Clouds And Milk Drops by Tim Yu

A master glassmaker, Jeff Zimmerman (featured in the Cool Hunting Gift Guide 2006) has attracted increasing attention over the past few years. Opening today, 24 Jan, at R20th Century Gallery will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in the US. On display will be a survey of more than two dozen new works, ranging from mysteriously biomorphic and colorful sculptures and tabletop-scaled abstract vessels, to luminous pendant lamps and monumental chandeliers from his Morphos, Cloud, Callalily and Milk Drop series. His signature organic shapes are intensely colorful but soft, mysterious but welcoming, disquieting yet familiar.

Opening Reception: Today (Wednesday), 24 Jan 2007, 6-8PM at R20th Century.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 24 Jan - 3 March.

The show, "For," continues the artist's exploration into the physical and mental space furniture occupies in our lives. Through the subtle distortion of common objects—a chair, a dresser, a stool—McMakin forces a subconscious shift in perception, or...
Tamara Kostianovsky: Actus Reus
"Actus Reus" is the debut solo exhibition of Tamara Kostianovsky, an Israeli artist raised in Argentina and currently living in Brooklyn. The show consists of life-sized animal carcasses painstakingly reconstructed using second-hand clothing, which are all former pieces from the artist's actual wardrobe. The patchwork constructions adopt a remarkably grotesque quality, hanging from meat hooks in an antiseptic gallery space. The exhibition's Latin title...
On Location: Chinatown and Lower East Side, NYC
by Naomi Nevitt While the Lower East Side has savored its fair share of hype over the past few years—from the rebellious beginnings as a skate-punk mecca to its recent emergence as a blue chip design destination—the area south of Delancey has always been somewhat on the cusp of the real action. But with the recent opening of the New Museum, i.e.: the area's new...
