Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco started 2007 with a photo exhibit that opened yesterday, featuring the works of Aaron Plant (U.S), Ruud van Empel (The Netherlands), Ellen Kooi (The Netherlands), and Carlos and Jason Sanchez (Canada). All of the artists share an affinity for subverted imagery of childhood, though their approaches vary wildly. The exhibit makes for a somewhat eerie but fascinating compilation of photos. We especially like Ruud Van Empel's color saturated portraits of children (pictured above center). The exhibit closes on 27 January 2007.

Basco
He goes by Vasco, Bazko, Vasko or Basco. At 20 years old he still has some time to figure out what his tag should be. But he doesn’t have that much time. Due to his success at the Upper Playground in association with Fifty24SF. The show opens Thursday, 2 March 2006 and runs through 1 April 2006. Look for his simple yet expressive faces,...
Todd Hido
Todd Hido is a SF Bay Area artist and photographer. He is a master with light and color, which helps illuminate the anonymity—of place, of location and of self—that is so central to his work. Who lives in these neighborhoods, in these houses? How did we, the voyeurs, arrive there? We are at once both intrigued and drawn away. The images are solemn, powerful...
Lighting Artist Marcus Tremonto: New Works
Since we last covered the work of Marcus Tremonto, the New York-based lighting magician has been busy with a host of new projects including collaborations with the Swarovski Crystal Palace and an exhibition at Spazio Rossana Orlandi during this year's Milan Furniture Fair (images after the jump). Recently, Tremonto completed an installation for his first exhibition in Switzerland at the Franziska Kessler Gallery in...
View Master: Diorama Photography by Lori Nix, Jonah Samson and Grace Weston
Photographer and CH contributing writer Jonah Samson's photographs of sex-driven miniatures on display at Seattle's G. Gibson Gallery are controversy writ small. Selected from his series "Pleasantville," the photos are part of the group exhibition entitled "View Master," featuring photographers Lori Nix and Grace Weston, who also make use of the creepy realism of dioramas in their work. Where Nix' desolate scenes suggest countless...
