Skin MD

by Ami Kealoha

Not all lotions are created equal. There are those that create a surface barrier, sealing moisture in, and others that use ingredients (called humectants) to attract moisture from the air. Skin MD, a new natural formulation of plant extracts and emollients does both and does it better. Using a new humectant that's six times more effective than the glycerin most often found in standard creams, Skin MD forms a shield to heal dry and problem skin. Made with homeopathic ingredients like Comfrey (long used by Native Americans as a salve), Chamomile, Aloe Vera, Arnica, Yarrow and Vitamin E, Skin MD is also naturally anti-microbial. Backed by doctor and real-life testimonials, the fragrance-free, long-lasting formula leaves skin feeling smooth and (because it's water-based) non-greasy. At $25 for 4 oz. Skin MD isn't a bargain solution, but a small amount goes a long way and the bottle should last you for upwards of a month—depending on how you use it. Pick it up from Skin MD.

Same Place Different Face

by Lost At E Minor

images_of_stkilda.jpg images_of_stkilda2.jpg

Melbourne's St. Kilda is one of those iconic places that attracts an eclectic bunch of people, many of whom liberally skirt the conventional parameters of life. The beachside community is renowned for its diversity—be it in the music and art that out of the pubs and studios or the cakes that tempt from the windows of the cafes. It's a fascinating little part of Melbourne and its been captured for posterity in a new coffee table book by Australian photographers Elizabeth Clancy and Kylie-Rose Douglas. Same Place Different Face "uncovers the character and edginess of a place that holds a magnetic attraction to locals and visitors, louts and luminaries. To some, St Kilda is fish and chips as the sun sets over the pier, Acland Street cake binges, Luna Park, Junction Oval and hot sand in summer. To others, it's 4am stumps, big sounds from the Prince Band Room, queuing on The Espy steps, street workers, bar brawls and big breakfasts. Same Place Different Face represents the St Kilda spirit that is something to everyone, and everything to some." It's available from selected bookshops.
