Cool Hunting

CH's looking for a smart, motivated Editorial Intern who has strong writing, research and organizational skills. We're looking for someone for the spring semester to start in January, but earlier is even better. You'll need to be NYC-based and able to commit to 20 hours weekly. See the full job description after the jump.
Editorial duties include researching, fact checking, developing, proofreading and writing stories, light administrative work and some PR. Also, the intern will be responsible for sourcing, calling in and tracking products and samples and communicating with reps. This person will work primarily with the managing editor, but will also assist two other editors as needed. We’re looking for someone who feels as comfortable liaising with designers as they do writing under daily deadlines and who is eager to take on and own new projects . Our dynamic (and fun) work environment offers a wide range of opportunities where the right person will thrive and gain invaluable experience.

Busted! marks the first print edition of Fray.com’s long-running series of first-person true stories. Launched in the internet wilderness of 1996, it served the novel role of personal storytelling forum, eventually expanding to a series of live events and albums. With the new millennium came the inevitable over-saturation of blogs and online journals, pushing Fray into an indefinite hiatus, only to return last month...
The Meaning of Tingo is Adam Jacot de Boinod's new book surveying words around the world that are seldom found in other languages. The book is packed with little gems, such as the longest known palindrome in any language, the Finnish word saippuakivikauppias, the 27 Albanian words for moustaches and eyebrows, the Hawaiian word for walking away without listening to directions 'akihi among them....
A cleverly subtle (and totally Japanese) update to the classic wooden ruler, the Split Ruler by Tokyo-based Cina has a pencil-shaped cut-out for placing pens or pencils when not in use. The duo behind Cina are the same two behind the snowflake-patterned flash drives that have been circulating around the internet this week, but in this case we're more captivated by the reinvention of...
The Livescribe Pulse Smartpen is the kind of invention that marries a brilliant idea with the best available technology of an era, provoking a gee-whizz response rarely experienced in this age of rapid advancement. While smartpens have been around for some time, previous models have been riddled with problems and failed to gain a following. Livescribe nails every feature on the dot. Essentially, the...
by Gabriel Bell We've gotten lost in photographer Tim Barber's online gallery, Tiny Vices, more than we probably should. Carefully edited and simple to use, Tiny Vices does a great job of introducing readers to an entire clique of visual work ranging from the ghostly, back-alley photography of Christian Patterson to the truly cracked illustrations of David Benjamin Sherry. With artists ranging from the...
U.K.-based music publication 'Sup Magazine's 18th issue featuring cover stars The Kills has just landed at specialty retailers. The release coincides with the publication's 10-year anniversary and boasts profiles on two dozen other indie bands like Map of Africa, Tigercity and Le Loup (see last week's video for a sample), all done with no filler (i.e. Q & A style with thankfully short intros),...
