Cool Hunting
We have five copies of the new Voxtrot 7" maxi-single to give away. The quintet from Austin has been drawing comparisons to Belle and Sebastian, The Smiths and The Strokes since 2005 when their debut EP Raised by Wolves came out. No doubt the comparisons give them big shoes to fill, but Voxtrot has been holding their own with their crowd-pleasing indie-pop, both in their dynamic live shows and with their follow-up EP Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives that came out earlier this year. The vinyl pressing features three infectious songs from this indie-pop band, "Your Biggest Fan," as well as two b-sides, "Trouble" and "Sway." "Your Biggest Fan" is a preview of a single from the much anticipated full-length release, which is being produced by a yet-to-be-announced "big name." We'll send a copy of the "Your Biggest Fan" 7" to the first five CH readers who can tell us what Voxtrot singer Ramesh Srivastava dressed up as for Halloween this year.
To enter, follow the contact link at the bottom of the page, select "Voxtrot giveaway" from the pull-down menu and send us your answer. We'll announce the winners Monday, 27 November 2006.

Back in March 2008, aniBoom, the online home of animation, teamed up with Radiohead's TBD Records for a contest inviting fans and animators to create a video for any of the songs from the band's wildly successful album, In Rainbows. From over 1,000 storyboard submissions, roughly 200 clips were produced and whittled down to 15 semi-finalists. Thom Yorke was quoted on w.a.s.t.e. saying, "......
Not everyone has welcoming outer ears to the standard iPhone earbuds. While we haven't found the perfect replacement, the V-Moda VIBE Duos deliver the best combination of functionality, sound and in-the-ear fit. The VIBE Duos feature the inline mic and button to switch between music and incoming phone calls similar to the Apple iPhone stereo headset. This is a must for smoothly handling unexpected...
Our friends over at Imeem, the internet's fastest growing social networking site according to the latest Comcast figures, have an Eskimo Joe design contest running at the moment on their group page. It's all very simple: Listen to the album, which is streaming on the page, choose your favorite song, and create album art for it as if it was going to be produced...
Cool Hunting is teaming up with rockers Modest Mouse to give you a special edition of their new album, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, and a Sony Portable DVD player. To enter just follow the link, fill out a couple lines of info and give a listen to their new song, "Missed The Boat." It's a great tune with crunchy guitars...
In his new album, Asa Breed, electronic superstar Matthew Dear managed to jettison both the galactic techno tendencies of his Audion project and the more experimental glitches of his debut, Leave Luck to Heaven. What's left behind is a moody pop album with touches of early new wave, rock and the ghosts of his techno past. Live drum kits fill out familiar 4/4 rhythms,...
Embodying the perfect marriage of subtle skill and charming sincerity, The Finches thankfully deliver on the promise of their 6-song debut EP, maintaining that release's spare instrumentation and generally subdued tone on their latest, titled Human Like a House. The duo of Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs and Aaron Morgan thankfully resist the temptation to weigh down their songs with excessive overdubs and overblown production, relying...
