Strala Inch Lamp by Jacob Resneck

stralainch.jpg

The Strala Inch Lamp is what Zürich-based designer T.W. Schmid calls "minimalistic ode to maximum." Stated plainly, it's a lamp with a twist. Partly inspired (ironically) by the Burmese practice of wearing neck rings to stretch the neck, it can be tilted and extended from 150 to 224 centimeters, making it a functional, spartan design that arrests a lot of attention for such a small footprint. Inch is just one of several odd-yet-intriguing products offered by Strala, Schmid's design firm that will be featured at the Blickfang design exhibition that opens in Zürich this Friday, 24 November 2006, and runs through 26 November 2006.
