Cut & Paste by m ss ng p eces
A little more than a year ago, CH sponsored Cut & Paste, the first design competition to square designers against each other in a live tournament-style battle. From the initial sold-out event in NYC, Cut & Paste has grown into a nationwide tour with stops in four cities featuring local designers and judges in each spot. For episode 55, CH joined the party that kicked-off their national series at a Brooklyn warehouse-turned-club to document eight of the best young New York designers duking it out on stage. The video captures the three high-energy rounds, a lively 1200-person audience and an unexpected turn. You'll have to watch to find out which of CH's crew stepped in last-minute to replace a judge who was sick.

Wacom Cintiq
As you may remember, we're sponsoring the Wacom Cintiq-- competitors will be on stage drawing on these LCD tablets which are big enough (21") for the audience to see the work in progress. I dropped by the motion graphics firm UV/Phactory earlier this week to get a demo of the Cintiq and was pretty blown away. The screen is crisp and clear, the surface...

Reinventing Grand Army Plaza
by Tamara WarrenGrand Army Plaza, the main entrance to Brooklyn's Prospect Park, sprawls across 11 acres in a landscaped oval. With regal statues and a sparkling fountain, it's majestic and — its function as a busy traffic circle separates the cultural landmark from the surrounding pedestrian sidewalks — inaccessible. Reinventing Grand Army Plaza is an exhibit that highlights the visions of 30 top entrants...

Kiel Mead, Jewelry and Furniture Designer
A Pratt graduate who cut his teeth in the Brooklyn design scene, jewelry and furniture maker Kiel Mead represents the next generation of New York designers. Taking inspiration from such disparate sources as everyday objects (car keys, chewing gum, retainers) and Catholic iconography (Saint Sebastian, crucifixes), his work mixes irreverence with first-rate craftsmanship. In this video, we visit his Brooklyn studio where he shows...
