Cool Hunting
It's one thing swapping clothes with a friend to extend your wardrobe for a while, but it's quite another swapping clothes stores with a like-minded brand to extend your reach to another country. That's what London store Browns Focus (above left) has done with the Stockholm studio of Acne Jeans (above right), lock, stock and barrel. For ten days (only until this weekend), Browns has taken over the space in Norrmalmstorg square in the center of the Swedish capital, complete with its wide selection of progressive, edgy designer labels and its sales staff. Going the other way over the North Sea, Acne has set up for a few days in the West End to showcase its women's collection, again with sales staff in tow. This foreign exchange experiment has the staff swapping apartments, too. You've heard of pop-up stores—now we've got 'swap up' stores.

Standing proudly in the Stockholm suburb of Midsommarkransen, the 10 story, 72 meter tall Telefonplan tower—built and used by Ericsson for many years—stood as the center of their corporate campus and served as a neighborhood landmark. Today the neighborhood has grown beyond Ericsson's presence, and local architect Milo Lavén, artist Erik Krikortz and interaction designer Loove Broms have transformed the tower to be a...
Fusing together art and fashion, the mother-daughter team at Oxygen in London are part of the growing retail trend that's part gallery space, part boutique. Growing up the daughter of a discerning fashion buyer, Joanna Nicola developed an eye for new talent and refined attire at a young age. Her talent is evident in the shop's collection of sleek dresses and stylish ensembles, all...
Currently in 4th Place for the “People’s Prize” in the Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Awards, we like Frida Jeppsson’s submission titled “Brilliant." It is one of 21 entries from young designers from all over the world. Representing Sweden, the 24-year-old Stockholmian's entry is a marriage of form and function creating a perfectly balanced piece that remains true to the brief of the prize. Jeppsson...
Erik Schedin is an online shop run by the eponymous proprietor out of Sweden. He specializes in selling an extremely select collection of seemingly unrelated products. The only connecting thread between them is that each item exhibits a distinctly clean, understated design. The project started four years ago when Schedin, then a student at Beckmans College of Design, began producing his own footwear. The...
Hairywood in Covent Garden Piazza The celebrated collaboration between 6a Architects and fashion designers Eley Kishimoto has been reconstructed for 2008 and placed in London's busiest public square. The decorative tower (above left), inspired by both Rapunzel and Jaques Tati, created a buzz in 2005 when it appeared peeping over Old Street. Take some time out to rise above the chaos, go sit in...
"The 21 Steps" is a fast-paced, finely-tuned thriller that uses Google Maps to take the reader through the story's events. Written by British purveyor of spy thrillers, Charles Cumming, the story is told through Google's information bubbles with brief statements and images that take the reader from the streets of London to Edinburgh, Scotland with plenty of action and mini-cliffhangers along the way. "The...
