Alexis Canter Jewelry by Letizia Rossi

babyteeth.jpg

Alexis Canter creates beautiful jewelry from casts of baby teeth, coffee beans, chicken bones and other organic remnants. The Brooklyn based designer's signature piece--a 14k gold casting of the winning half of a wishbone--makes a perfect good luck charm and the 14k gold baby teeth earrings (pictured) are the ideal synthesis of creepy and cute. Available at Stuart and Wright in Brooklyn the "Lucky Half" is $150 in silver and $400 in 14k gold, the baby teeth earrings are $190 and a solid 14k gold coffee been pendant is $436. See more images here.

If you can't make it to Brooklyn, you can find Alexis Canter's Apple and Lemon Seed necklace ($320) online at Matter.

Lanyard Necklaces
Neon plastic lanyard evokes a summer camp nostalgia when counselors schooled us in the art of kitsch key-chains and friendship bracelets. But in the hands of Philip O'Sullivan, the designer of an innovative new jewelry line, these notions of yesteryear are all but a memory. Made from hiking rope, which is crafted into beautifully intricate knots and finished with gunmetal hardware, each piece is...
Lucy Miller Beaded Chain-Link Necklace
Made by English knitwear designer Lucy Miller, we found these hand-tied beaded necklaces at The Rise + Fall store. (Miller's line is among the small collection of goods there that's not from their house label.) We love the way Miller simultaneously reinvents both traditional beadwork and chains for a necklace that's neither too hippie nor too fake bling. (Click image for detail.) "They're really...
Chrishabana Jewelry
A slightly different approach than the delicate scenes made of hair by Melanie Bilenker's jewelry, the latest offering from Brooklyn-based jewelry designer Chrishabana feature charms strung on braided locks of human hair. Drawing on the 18th century tradition of curling, plaiting and weaving hair into decorative motifs, Chrishabana's pieces return the air of sentimentality to hair as a medium. The collection features three versions...
Mouse Skull Necklace
Skulls might be last year's thing but to me they transcend fad, and I know I'm not alone. This little mouse skull is made of oxidized silver and cast from a found original. Crafted in Brooklyn by Andrea Gentl and India d'Arthenay of Thorn, it comes on a 22" chain. It's $218 from Active Endeavors, but if you enter the coupon code: COOLHUNTING you'll...
