To a T by Ami Kealoha

Rxmance Sm Sammitchelltee Terminus 2-2

Celebrating the humblest of fashion statements, Atlanta's Design Museum will launch an exhibit devoted to t-shirts next Thursday, 19 October 2006. Including several lines you may have previously seen in these pages (co-curator Laura Moody says she often sourced designers from Cool Hunting), the show features the latest in t-shirt design with an emphasis on southern regional designers, like Esperanza, former Sam Mitchell (pictured center), Pecan Pie Couture, Black Black Label and Epidemik Coalition. Also bringing together high-end designers who've embraced the democratic medium, like Marc Jacobs, with innovators such as Project Alabama (known for their quilt-like reconstructed tees) and the hand-written tees of Snerko, as well as others from San Diego-based Rxmance (pictured left, click for detail) to San Franciscans Turk + Taylor and Australian designer Jonathan Nichols, "To a T" offers a diverse mix of t-shirts the world over. "Heaven and Hell" is a reversible limited edition t-shirt and print that's new from Los Angeles design and ad firm Meat and Potatoes. Created for a celebrity lounge at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards in December, the four remaining from the event will be auctioned to benefit Meals on Wheels today, 26 January 2007, at 4pm EST on Ebay. Each long sleeve tee features...
Print Liberation
Philadelphia-based design studio Print Liberation carries a line of tees, prints, and accessories that will make any font nerd swoon. Printed on American Apparel, we like the layout and concept of the "Don't Give Up" tee, which avoids the bumper sticker-like pitfalls of other message shirts by using non-centered and so-clichéd-it's-meaningless text and was also one of Print Liberation's wheat paste campaigns. The same...
Klaus Industries
Twenty-two years ago the year 1984 came and went and we were all supposed to breathe a collective sigh of relief. We weren't faced with a perpetual war with shifting adversaries; our own citizens were not being detained and held indefinitely without charge; dissenting voices were common in the mainstream media; and partisan debate was not branded as disloyalty to the nation. Arguably, in...
SVSV: A Form of War
My favorite fashion-fuck-you brand, SVSV, is making a slice of their uber-exclusive, hyper priced items accessible in a new store that just launched 10 minutes ago. There's a selection of t-shirts, hoodies, hats and scarves in addition to these favorite porcelain bullet replicas. Originally intended as a fund raiser to combat gun violence, proceeds from sales of the bullet pendants will be used to...
