Cool Hunting
Boston's historic South End is now home to an innovative new food shop that blends the traditional New England farm stand and the sleek urban market place. Plum Produce is referred to as "the Clinique of farm stands" by proprietor Barbara Lynch (who also owns No. 9 Park, The Butcher Shop, B&G Oysters and the catering company Niche Catour). This intimate new addition offers the same top quality, local produce used in her restaurants available for use at home.
The shop's simple, utilitarian design by C&J Katz Studio directly reflects Lynch's attitude about food by combining traditional seasonal produce with minimalistic, unornamented displays. In addition to fresh vegetables, herbs and dried fruits, you can also find a selection Lynch's house-made preserves.

by Laura Neilson Just in time for grilling season, Japan Premium Beef recently opened its first retail shop in New York's Noho district to much acclaim. Now discerning carnivores can take meaty matters into their own hands by purchasing various cuts of the importer's Wagyu-style beef, formerly available to restaurants only. The superlative-quality beef, best known for its vividly marbled appearance, high percentage of unsaturated...
More often associated with curry and chili peppers, Southeast Asian cuisine is less noted for its ice cream. I was of this mind while traveling through the region until happening upon an attractive Bangkok location of iBerry Homemade. The small chain of ice cream, smoothie and bake shops have been thriving throughout the Thai capital for years and for good reason. Highly-stylized, the shops...
Recently opened on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Mastihashop is the Greek company's first U.S. boutique. The shop specializes in all manner of products made with Mastiha, an all natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial resin which can only be harvested from the sap of evergreen bushes found exclusively in the southern part of the Greek Island of Chios. In use for 2,500 years as...
Inspired by a silk dress, the wrapping for a new Neiman Marcus store in Boston undulates and folds around the building. Neiman's philosophy is that every store should look completely different from every other of their stores. In line with this, the wrap to this outlet in Boston is made from patches of stainless steel knitted together and is 40 feet high and the...
On a recent trip to Los Angeles, the locals who head up the multi-media design studio Nanospore tipped Cool Hunting to some of the freshest new spots and a few old standbys. Perfect jumping off points for a day-long layover, here's proof that LA's more than just Grauman's Chinese Theatre, freeways, and the Getty. The Social Trust 155 West Washington Boulevard Suite 714 Los...
Fiber & Fellow has been on our radar for some time now, but we are especially impressed with their upcoming Fall/Winter 09 collection which is due out late this Summer. Based out of Long Beach, California, Fiber & Fellow's latest menswear collection might fit better in the woods than on the beach. What I like most is the blend of traditional and contemporary styles...
