Cool Hunting
I just got my copy of Mattachine, the debut CD from The Ballet. The handmade package features a simple triangular pattern printed on the disk, erotic drawings printed on a sheet of paper from a legal pad, and the liner notes suggest a very literal stemming of the rose from the attached pin.
Self-proclaimed "Sissy-pop," The Ballet's debut CD features members of The Aislers Set, Voxtrot and The Baskervilles. Recalling Holiday-era Magnetic Fields, The Hidden Cameras, Belle and Sebastian and The Smiths, their formula of "4 queers, 3 chords and 100 melodies" has us hooked.
The limited run of 200 is already sold out, but try pre-ordering directly from The Ballet and check out their a MySpace page to hear works-in-progress.

In this video we visit the 19th annual Dachshund Spring Fiesta in NYC's Washington Square Park. Put on by the Dachshund Friendship Club, the event is one of two get-togethers they hold each year and draws hundreds of Dachsies and their owners. The only official activity is the singing of the Dachshund Song, composed by Murray Weinstock (who also made a CD of "dog...
Gore, the kaleidoscopic photo collage that's equal parts documentary project and art book by New York noise band Black Dice and their collaborator, photographer Jason Frank Rothenberg, gets a launch tomorrow 23 June 2006 at New York's New Museum. Featuring Rothenberg's dreamy anonymous landscapes and snapshot-like portraits interspersed with (and integrated into) cutouts of porn, candy wrappers, '70s-era advertisements, and other ephemera, the book...
