Jaime Hayón by Leonora Oppenheim

Bathroom Artquitect-1 Ceramicvases-1 Showtimemultilegcabinet-1

Designer, artist, illustrator, and ceramicist Jaime Hayón's upcoming solo exhibition and seminar at London's Design Festival are must-sees. Jaime’s forms are decorative, fluid and sensuous and his objects and products always have a luxurious feel—whether a highly glossy vase, a smoothly polished metal lamp, or deliciously upholstered leather chair. This year he won Elle Decor's Best Bathroom award for his beautifully seductive designs produced with ArtQuitect (pictured far left, click images for detail). He also received rave reviews at the Milan fair this year for Showtime (far right), his new line of furniture for Bd Ediciones de Diseño, which highlight Jamie’s flamboyant side with oversized upholstered armchairs and a bold blue cabinet with many different legs. For Jaime the key is diversity—why just have four legs all the same when you can have 20 legs, all different?

After working in LA, Paris, Hong Kong and as head of Design at Fabrica (Benetton's communication research center in Italy) for several years, the Spanish Designer is now based in Barcelona, but will be in London for the Design Festival. His show opens 23 September 2006 and runs through 14 November 2006 at The Aram Gallery and he will be taking part in the Festival Design Talks at the Old Truman Brewery on 20 September 2006. Visit the festival website to reserve a seat.

Blown Ups Lightbulbs
Melding the frivolity of balloon animals with the function of illuminating your personal space, these Blown Ups are quite the eccentric offering from Thelermont Hupton of London. Each piece is crafted with silver finished steel and are made from blown glass that combines the traditional handicraft of a glassworker with the every-day-magic of electric light that we often take for granted. They can be ordered...
Random International: Temporary Printing Machine
One of the most engaging exhibits that we saw at the Design Art London fair last month was this Temporary Printing Machine by one of CH's fave interactive design collectives, rAndom International. This triptych, exhibited by the Carpenters Workshop Gallery under the title A Tribute to Francis Bacon, involves three frames each with a small camera, a digital printing device and light sensitive paper....
Seven Deadly Glasses
The Talent Zone at Tent during the London Design Festival was a rich source of creativity. After being wowed by Debbie Smyth's Pins and Thread installation, the nearby dramatically-titled Deadly Glasses caught our attention. The elaborate opulence of designer Kacper Hamilton's work directly contrasts the minimalism of Smyth's. His seven hand-blown red wine glasses were exhibited in and around a beautiful wooden box with...
Doshi Levien Exhibition at Moroso USA
For their first large-scale exhibition in the U.S., Doshi Levien have taken over the first floor of Moroso's New York showroom. If the images in the slide show below are any indication, expect to see much more from this London-based duo in the coming years.Just over a year ago, Jonathan Levien and Nipa Doshi (the husband and wife team behind Doshi Levien) surged onto the...
