Cool Hunting

Auckland-based designer Catherine David's shower curtains are just one item that are making a splash in the world of designer houseware. A winner of New Zealand's Home and Entertaining Design awards in 2005, these high-quality soap and mold resistant nylon curtains are an artistic canvas for an assortment of David's designs. And yes, you can get your choice of colors.
We're also into the side table, which features an image of a man trying to get out of the box.
Catherine Davis Designs also manufacturers some intriguing lamps. Many have their designs printed on the reverse side, so that the image isn't visible until the lamp is illuminated—making a very pleasing surprise. There's a variety of styles and different types of items, all of which are available on the site's online store.

F3 Design's Guywire collection proves that most any material can be manipulated in the service of creative expression. Combining industrial stainless steel wire of varying thicknesses and copper sleeves, the design studio makes unisex jewelry befitting both boutique and hardware store alike. Currently the collection consists of a series of bracelets and earrings (pictured), though there's clearly opportunity to expand into necklaces, rings and...
This imitation polar bear-skin rug is designed by Reykjavik-based designer Sruli Recht for Birkiland. Limited to a single run of 10, the Ice Bear is not just the cute-and-cuddly accessory it appears. The designer hopes to pack a dose of symbolism into the classic man-over-beast accessory. Cobbled together from 15 different Icelandic sheepskins, it's meant to resemble the classic butcher's diagram poster that labels...
My favorite design from last year's Muji awards is the Chronotebook, a simple but effective daily planner. Rather than the standard columns, lines or grids, each page has an analog clock graphic. With time as the central structuring element, this daily planner is more flexible and helps with accomplishing tasks in a timely manner. Beige, minimal, with rounded corners and just small enough to...
The Museum of Modern Art's popular design store added some clever new items recently, all of which aimed to help you further personalize your personal space. The Exhibit Your Art Pad (pictured at right) is a stack of sticky note pages that feature a stylized blue frame on the border. As such, anything you write in the center—whether a doodle or detailed painting—is immediately...
Trend USA's new collection called Liberty, designed by the skilled Italian mosaic artist Giulio Candussio, is a modern update to the ancient artform perfected by Greek and Roman artists thousands of years ago. The way the hand-cut glass tiles catch light is simply exquisite. (See another image after the jump.) With a material make-up of at least 25% recycled content, your empty beer bottles...
We just got a peek at Jack Spade's new holiday line of accessories and we're pleased to be the first to share them with you. We're loving the hand-knit sea creature keychains and the sterling-capped chapstick, but everything in the collection has a subtle wit about it and just the right amount of something special to make for a good gift. While they're not available...
