For the weeks we've been enjoying them at CH HQ, they've enhanced everything from Too Short's latest hyphy-heavy release to the warm melodies of vintage Beatles tracks with real, rich bass that stays crisp even at high volumes (at least up to a point). Featuring wood cabinets, an iPod charger port, two audio inputs, an Airport Express power outlet and more, Audioengine 5s have all the specs you'd want from stand-alone speakers in a size that's small enough to tuck into a bookshelf.

Based on the superior performance of the Audioengine 5s we were excited when their new smaller desktop speakers arrived and they don't disappoint. Like their predecessors, Audioengine 2s are powered speakers constructed of wood featuring a silk tweeter and a newly updated kevlar woofer which makes for the same impressive bass and satisfyingly rich sound—but packed into a third of the size (approximately 6"x4"x5.5")....

Due out this coming Winter, the new microphone-based device plugs directly into iPod's universal dock, transmitting instrumentals and backup vocals...
