Cool Hunting
Tito Beveridge makes Tito's Handmade Vodka in Austin from the first and only licensed distillery in Texas. Made in small batches from 100% American corn in a pot still, each batch is distilled six times (versus an industry average of three), ensuring the cleanest, smoothest vodka you're likely to taste.
Tito's grandfather made hooch during Prohibition, and his uncle is known for his firey pepper vodka; it was only a matter of time before Tito started making alcohol himself, experimenting with beer in college and flavored vodkas as gifts for friends before deciding on micro-brewing Tito's Handmade.
Tito's has won many awards (including the Dougle Gold at the 2001 World Spirits Competition). Best of all, it's very well priced (so his friends can afford it, Tito says). It's available in most states (check the site for local distributors) and online.

by Laura Neilson For those who prefer an "Appletini" that doesn't conjure a Jolly Rancher, Harvest Spirits' Core Apple Vodka is produced from real Hudson Valley apples (not potatoes or corn), and the flavor is far more delicate and subtle than most apple-infused spirits on the market. Small-batch production began this spring when Derek Grout of Golden Harvest Orchards, opted to opted to make more...
We've seen other tonics boasting superiority over supermarket brands and heard of enlightened bartenders experimenting with DIY versions lately, but Q Tonic, a new Brooklyn-based maker, is elevating the mixer to appreciable new heights. Doing away with the additives and high fructose corn syrup found in other brands Q uses quinine sourced from the Andes and Mexican agave as a sweetener. The result is...
Forget what you know about cachaça. Brazilian distiller Sagatiba elevates the 500 year-old spirit to an artform, applying years of research to the process for a drinking experience that rivals the finest out there. We had the privilege of meeting master distiller Gustavo Nahor recently when he visited CH HQ to fill us in on the extensive process of making Sagatiba and introduce us...
Our friends from m ss ng p eces recently returned from making a video in Mexico City with bottles of a smoky, complex mezcal labeled "La Botica." Turns out La Botica is a small mezcaleria in the trendy Condesa section of the city that's rebranding the humble liquor for a new audience with beautifully-designed packaging and an artisinal approach. Since opening a couple years...
Beverage purists argue that ice should never be introduced to a quality Scotch whiskey. Such thinking rests on the theory that when holding a glass, your body heat will melt the ice, resulting in a diluted spirit and sub-par drinking experience. In order to make a Scotch cold without diluting it, Scottish whiskey purveyors The Macallan created a clever ice ball maker (pictured above)....
by Laura Neilson Most of us associate the term "mini-bar" with hotel room fridges harboring overpriced soft drinks, booze and snacks, but in Amsterdam, it's a decidedly unusual addition to the city's nightlife. Minibar, the recently-opened drinking spot in the Dutch city's center, operates by allowing customers to serve themselves from the bar's series of variously-sized beverage coolers. After checking in with a staff member...
