Beautiful/Decay Tees: Aya Kato and Jonathan Nicol by Josh Rubin

Btfldy Jonathan1 Btfldy Mermaid1

Recently added to Beautiful/Decay's line of artist-designed tees, these two new shirts continue the brand's shirt-as-canvas approach. Australian artist Jonathan Nicol's "Conan Shirt" juxtaposes mythological icons, like vampire teeth, a woman wearing an eye patch and a skull, using a palette restricted to gray, yellow, black, and white. For Aya Kato's second Beautiful/Decay effort, the Japanese artist depicts two mermaids and their watery surroundings in a black print on a cream t-shirt. See detail shots after the jump. All Beautiful/Decay tees are 40 Needle Knit, 100% cotton, printed using "discharge" process for touch-ability, and feature a slim custom-cut body. Pick these up for $30 from Beautiful/Decay.

He looks for interesting subjects when he takes photos, but when he draws,...

With the market saturated by minimally shaped and starkly-colored offerings, we like the refreshing leap back to the roots of shoe design. The Mpj boot reverently bows its head to Native America with its premium leather construction, removable fringe, sock liner made from recycled material...
Dossier Artist-Designed Totes
Much like NYC-based arts and culture magazine Dossier's publication itself, their latest project, a series of totes customized by a hand-picked cadre of artists and designers, draws on the talent of their creative community. Bags feature the work of musicians, stylists, fashion designers and poets who each applied different techniques like wood-block printing, collage, photo transfers and quilting. The results of course are as...
