The Doghouse Kitchen Treats

by Evan Orensten

doghousekitchen.jpg

Dogs, like most people, will take good tasting junk food treats over most healthy treats. The Doghouse Kitchen makes organic dog treats that are dairy-, wheat- and corn-free—and apparently quite tasty. They do not contain any preservatives, GMO, salt or soy products. Of the three varieties, I Yam What I Yam ranks highest on the list of CH mascots Otis and Logan's favorite treats.

Monster Memos

by Ami Kealoha

me_pack.jpg

Culinary renegade Homaro Cantu maybe refining the art of edible paper with his cheesecake and mojito flavored ink-jet creations at Chicago's Moto restaurant, but German confectioner Hoch Fun-Food is making it accessible to the cubicle-confined. Available in tutti-frutti, raspberry, and orange, the flavors may be more mundane than Cantu's, but each 12-pack of Monster Memos comes complete with a food coloring ink pen for jotting down information so sensitive you trust only your own teeth to shred.

The Collection

by Evan Orensten

thecollection_towels.jpg

Allison Grant opened The Collection in Paris in 2003 to feature the work of new and established English designers. Her collection has grown and features works by several designers, spanning wallpaper (handmade, embroidered, trompe l'oeil, kits, appliques...), lighting, accessories, children's furniture and accessories.

There are too many great things to show, but we managed a few of our favorites: Colorful kitchen towels by Unity Peg (above), wallpaper by Tracy Kendall, Deborah Bowness and Aurélie Mathigot, and the flocked vinyl "frames" by Mayte Alcade.

Rxmance Fall '06

by Ami Kealoha

Rxmance1.jpg

New from the aptly-named line Rxmance, their Fall collection of tees, like their other collections, seems to be guided by what happens to capture the designer's fancy. The new goods range from abstract geometric prints (pictured) to something that looks like ski lodge chic from the '70s (Detour, Revolve Clothing, and Standard Style.

The Warehouse Project

by SummerSeventySix

Warehouseproject

Until now, urban music festivals have largely stuck to the template laid down by their rural equivalents, with bands and DJs playing in big marquees in an open space like Hyde Park instead of one in Somerset. The Warehouse Project looks like it's set to turn the whole thing on its head, and not just because it's happening outside of summer.

It comes to Manchester's iconic old Boddingtons brewery in October and doesn't just last for one long weekend, but runs for twelve of them until the early hours of next year. Some of the line-up has just been announced and it looks very promising. Hip-hop pioneers Public Enemy kick things off with a full live show; there'll be a Radio Soulwax Warehouse Party hosted by bootleg maniacs 2ManyDJs; and on XFM's night, Kasabian, Doves and The Avalanches will take to the decks. Other credible names like Gilles Peterson, Rahzel, De La Soul, Fingathing and Mr Scruff will also make appearances through the autumn. As Lee from local club night Ape says, "Manchester has been crying out for this for so long. I can’t wait." The Warehouse Project runs from 6 October 2006 until 31 December 200

Gap PRODUCT (RED) Holiday 2006 Preview

by Evan Orensten

Gap-Product-RED-1.jpg

We got a sneak peak at Gap's PRODUCT (RED), which launches in October. The clothing and accessories will be co-branded, and 50% of all profits from the sales of (RED) items will be given to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the benefactor of funds (and media attention) of the PRODUCT (RED) movement.

Gap-Product-RED-2.jpg

Gap's PRODUCT (RED) for Holiday 2006 includes tees, hoodies in cotton and in cashmere, jackets, jeans, bags, belts, caps, scarves, a bracelet, candle and Individuals, a book of celebrity portraits taken over the years by Gap (100% of sales from the book will be donated to the Global Fund). Prices will range from $10 to $350. Some PRODUCT (RED) tees are currently available in the U.K. The full line will be carried in flagship/key stores in the U.S. and U.K. starting in October (limited items in other stores), and will also be available online.

Our favorite picks are the Peace Parka for guys with hand-stenciled letters on the inside (pictured right), the super soft, discharge-printed tees (which are made in Lesotho) and the super comfy hoodies. We also liked the details on the denim and the messenger bags, which feature red thread and a small red tag, a subtle and effective approach.

The momentum and attention of PRODUCT (RED) is impressive. It's great to see how a good idea can take hold in the boardroom and in the marketplace, and help people both with aid and with economic development.
