Paul A. Young Fine Chocolates by SummerSeventySix

I've found the best chocolate brownie in London, and it's made by Paul A Young. After three years looking for the perfect space, Paul opened his boutique chocolaterie in Islington, North London in the Spring, and hasn't looked back. It helps that it's on Camden Passage - a street that's become a word-of-mouth favorite among North Londoners for of its eclectic vintage furniture shops, laid back bars and stalls selling strange ephemera. Now, there's one more reason for everyone else to take note.

Having worked as a top pastry chef under the exceptionally talented, and unpredictable, Marco Pierre White, Paul's passion has always been for all things chocolate. These days, working mostly with Valrhona, he makes the usual taste incredible and the unusual taste like nothing else you have ever put in your mouth.

I thought Flour Power City cooked up the best brownies in London. Now I know that Paul does. Would you mix Marmite with chocolate? Paul has, and the result works, tasting incredible. He's also done the same with sichuan pepper, to great effect, and I think I heard him say something about chocolates filled with stilton, or some other sort of cheese. I'd trust him to make it work.

Last word to the brownies though. If you're in this neck of the woods - or even the Elk In The Woods two doors down - check them out. They're already becoming legendary after a matter of weeks. That's talent.

Mmm Mmm Good Gifts
Food's temporal nature eliminates the burden of gifting an object of questionable desirability. When in doubt, look to consumables. Rather than the usual box of chocolates, we've gathered some items that will express your gift-giving personality and bring joy to tummies worldwide, like milk chocolate-covered bacon, an array of English cheeses or macaroons handmade in New Orleans. Check the Cool Hunting Holiday 2008 Gift Guide...
Chuao Firecracker Chocolates
We love a good high-brow low-brow mash up, and that's exactly what Chuao's new Firecracker chocolates provide—a combination of very tasty chocolate, a little salt, the heat of chipotle and the pop of crackling candy. We were surprised how much we liked it. While they offer a small variety of firecracker chocolate bars, we particularly enjoyed the chocolate truffles, which delivered, as someone said, "a...
Suite 88 Chocolatier: Les Shooters
When the world's most desirable confection meets some of the finest spirits, it's bound to be a successful combination. Case in point, Les Shooters from Montreal's first chocolate lounge and boutique, Suite 88. The shooters, which appear to be average, conical truffles are actually chocolate containers filled with an assortment of 12 different liquors. To take the shooter, first bite the tip off before...
Mari's Brownies
With adventurous flavor combinations, like Thai Coffee and Fig Port, made entirely from scratch using premium ingredients and a fudgey texture, Mari's Brownies are CH's kind of treat. We also like their refreshingly small size, making them a moderate indulgence rather than a "guess-I'm-skipping-dinner" kind. Neatly packaged in their signature Pumpkin-hued baton boxes and wrapped with custom ribbon, the dense, rich squares make perfect...
