Cool Hunting
We like Barcelona design store L’appartement for its eclectic—yet cohesive—selection of art and design products. Their main objective is to promote the work of young innovative designers, making everything in the store fresh and exciting. The aesthetic is clean, contemporary, colorful and decorative. Each month L’appartement showcases a young designer’s work. This month features Japanese designer Hiroshi Tsunoda, a Barcelona resident, who's known for his simple, clever product design—particularly for the his distinctive light designs in the PH Collection. Running through 15 July 2006, there are only a few days left to catch Hiroshi’s show, so hurry along now! Next up it’s 5.5 Designers with their Réanim project. They call it the "medicine of objects," resuscitating discarded products to give them a second life. Sounds like they’ve got their fingers on the pulse.

The collection includes big names (who you may be surprised to learn went to RISD) like literary installation artist Jenny Holzer, the creators of the Family Guy, and Michael Cousins who co-founded Cousins Design, the award-winning...
Screaming for ice cream is easier than ever with Ice Cream Keeper, an insulated foam-core container than keeps your ice cream frozen while in transit. From Zak Designs, a leader in dinnerware and lunch kits made from melamine, a very durable thermosetting plastic. In combination with the insulation is the keeper's screw-off lid with freezable gel insert, which helps keep ice cream cold for up...
When I heard that Fredrik Larsson, owner of the Williamsburg boutique Scandinavian Grace, was opening an outpost in upstate New York, I had half a mind to take a day trip just to check it out. I still plan to but readers won't need to wait for my trip to view the interior (see more images after the jump). Located on Route 28 in...
I had the pleasure of spending this past weekend at the boutique Grand Hotel Central situated in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. The Grand has pulled off the rare feat of blending in completely with the city, making a stay in the hotel a perfectly subtle complement to one of the most exciting cities in the world. The hotel is constructed in the shell...

These smaller items are also available on the Design Within Reach site, but the experience of seeing them all in the store and leaving with them is...
