The Bible Rewrite Project
by Josh Rubin
Absurd, mythological-looking hybrid creatures made from mixed and matched animal parts show up frequently in the history of art and literature, but what about inventing a new critter out of actual roadkill? As part of his Bible Rewrite Project, New York-based Nate Hill has become an amateur taxidermist, sewing up found paws, tails, heads, and other body parts into his own configurations. Hill's revisionist undertaking is about "distorting the Bible and seeing it in [his] own image and obsession," which for him involves people taking an active role (namely, a needle and thread) in creating animals. Though it may appear to be the demented work of a megalomaniac (not to mention plain creepy), Hill's not without a sense of humor (there's a section called "God Games" on the site) and as he puts it, "more interesting to me is what happens if I fail? I tried to be God and failed." More images (not for the squeamish) Animal Magazine #7. Also, check out their blog.
Phused: Inphusion Saves Your Soul
by Ami Kealoha
This is one of the better future-soul compilations that's come out in awhile. Only the third (and first full-length) release from Berlin-based newcomer Inphusion, the limited edition CD includes the two singles released on the imprint as well as an unusually well-curated selection of independent electronic music from around the globe.
There are enough recognizable names on Phused to pique your curiosity, from DJ Spinna’s mellow but nevertheless neck-snapping remix of Roy Ayers’ “Holiday,” to the new classic Mark De Clive-Lowe and Bembe Segue UK soul tune “Heaven." But the real highlights are the people you may be hearing for the first time.
Standouts include French nu-jazzfunk bassist/producer Bruno Hovart, aka Patchworks, with a classy retro-boogie rendition of Cymande’s afro-funk classic “Brothers on the Slide.” Austrian neophyte Oracle’s instrumental electrofunk workout “Interdimensional”—a favorite on Benji B’s Deviation. And NYC’s own up-and-coming Spymusic supplies a groovy broken reworking of Champion Soul’s “Holdin’ On.”
If you are looking to let your soul horizons descend into the underground and across borders, this is a great primer. The limited run of 1,000 units is only available as an import for now. Order from the German Amazon or JPC or preview the whole CD on Inphusion’s website.

Farmer's Popcorn Cobs
by Ami Kealoha
Remember the first time you took the lid off the popcorn too soon? There's something magical about corn kernels turning from inedible nuggets to fluffy puffs. While not as theatrical as popcorn exploding all over the kitchen, Farmer’s Popcorn Cobs cook in the microwave, and pop right off the cob. The Sunflower Food Company sells the Kansas-grown tiny little cobs, which produce about six cups of popcorn each. There is nothing added so you can dress it up yourself with salt, butter or whatever you wish. We found the popcorn to be flavorful, fresh, and far superior to anything else out there. Packs of three are $6.50.
