The Paper Scissors by Lost At E Minor
Young Sydney group The Paper Scissors create a hybrid of sounds. It's a little funk, a little soul, roots and pop. James Brown in tight jeans? Yet despite their hyperactive approach, they've quickly developed a cult following amongst the Converse-wearing set across Australia. They've just released their debut self-titled EP and bigger things await. Check out their MySpace site for musical inspiration.

The Sticks
Gaining massive acclaim since their inception just over two years ago, Aussie band, The Sticks are well on their way to finding fame, fortune and a whole lot of fun. Sourcing inspiration from the music that infused their youth (think David Bowie, Elvis and Ray Charles) the three part band (two of whom are brothers) create a perfect fusion of modern rock, indie soul...

Alice Smith: For Lovers, Dreamers & Me
Alice Smith’s For Lovers, Dreamers and Me, is a strikingly mature debut. Like the best pop music, it's original, genuine, and accessible. Characterized by soul-searching lyrics, tunes that are catchy without being cheesy, rich and subtle arrangements, and vocal performances that range from captivating to breathtaking, For Lovers journeys with ease through genres—from bluesy soul, to rock, to melodic pop, to country. The album...

Appaloosa
She may well have the backing of Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) but Paris-native Anne-Laure can well and truly hold her own when it comes to delivering quality electronic-pop. Her debut EP, produced by Germany's Max Krefeld, is an eclectic mix of '80s beats, synth electronics and haunting, distinctive vocals. A woman of many talents this pint-sized Frenchie had put music on the back...

Cut Copy
Melbourne's Cut Copy is the hottest electro act out of Australia right now. We spoke to Mitchell Brown from the group to get the lowdown. Does Melbourne still have a dynamic creative scene? I think it really does—there's no shortage of people in Melbourne doing amazingly cool things creatively, whether it's music, art, fashion, or design. There's a lot going on. Also, for music,...

Harrisons
A crackling assault of guitars and drums, lyrics that bristle with indignation. Sheffield's Harrisons are for our era what The Clash were for theirs: a voice of rebellion, masked in four minute pop gems. We spoke recently to drummer Mark White. Aside from Harrisons and Joe Cocker, what else should we know about the creative scene in Sheffield? The best band from Sheffield by...
