Battuta: The Zingaro Equestrian Theatre by Ted Cahill

File Bartabas1

French "cavalier" poet and performer Bartabas combines an unimaginable hybrid of horses, horsemen, musicians, images, and dance under the roof of one virtual stable/stadium to create "Battuta," a wild performance art experience on the fence between popular and high art. In this new creation inspired by culture of "les Tziganes" or gypsies, Bartabas, with his troop Zingaro examines the infinite poetry of travel, along with its accompanying freedoms and the danger those freedoms can induce, in a 90-minute performance that hypnotizes the audience to the point of vertigo. Opening 29 June 2006, Battuta takes place nightly through 27 July 2006 at the Festival d'Avignon in France.

Radio Nova
Any Francophile worth their salt should know about Radio Nova, the 27 year-old French station that broadcasts throughout much of the country. There are a lot of reasons to love it, not the least of which is if you find yourself driving a tiny car equipped with only a cassette deck to Le Lude, a renaissance castle in the Loire Valley — as Seth...
Hotel Sezz
On a recent trip to Paris I had the pleasure of staying at the boutique Hotel Sezz, located in the 16th arrondissement, steps from the Seine, about 400 yards from the Eiffel Tower and just a few blocks away from the #6 metro. For all that, the small boutique hotel is located on a tranquil, very residential street, making for a more authentic Parisian...
