The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife by Ami Kealoha

Sebastien Agneesens is a riot of candy-hued balloons suggestive of the sensual sea creatures in the original. Unlike Hokusai's nearly 200 year-old print, the thousands of balloons that make up the show are an ephemeral medium; Hackenwerth sees the shrinking and shriveling that occurs as a "process of transformation metaphorically similar to our own short lives." More info and a flyer, after the jump.

Adam McEwen: Switch and Bait
by Kelsey Keith Adam McEwen is irreverent, witty, and whip smart (like any British artist worth his salt) and "Switch and Bait," his latest show with veteran gallerist Nicole Klagsbrun, is no exception. The exhibition, which opened last week in an auxiliary space in New York's Chelsea district, was slyly promoted with a press release detailing the process of machined graphite. "Graphite's specific properties, such...

by Ariston Anderson At first glance, the collection of portraits FAS Contemporary's Volta booth appears to be a wall of extremely beautiful women throughout the ages, each one quickly created in delicate strokes of oil paint. But then Monica Lewinsky's face pops out at you and is that Paula Jones? British painter Annie Kevan's solo show features every Presidential girlfriend on record. Although the majority...
